Pick a BibleProject video on the book of the Bible that you wish to study more of. After watching their video, what are some key takeaways about the context of the book? 1. Who wrote the book? 2. What was the historical context of the book? 3. What are some key takeaways from what you learned?

The Book of Ruth 1. The book doesn’t actually specify who wrote the book but according to jewish tradition the prophet Samuel wrote it. 2. The historical context is that it’s written sometime between 1160 BC and 1100 BC. This is during the latter days of the judges (Ruth 1:1) which were dark days, full of suffering brought about by the Israelites’ apostasy and immorality. Part of those days god brought upon famine and war. The book of Ruth opens with Naomi’s family being driven out of Bethlehem because of famine and they move to Moab. Noemi eventually returns later on with ruth because she heard “that the LORD had visited His people in giving them food” (1:6). 3. The main key takeaway I’ve learned from this story and the video is how God is rarely mentioned in the book. This really shows the beauty of god’s providence for us. This shows me how even if it may seem God isn’t doing anything directly, he is always working behind the scenes. We just need eyes to see it. Another takeaway is how even through the tragedy and death of Naomi’s family, in the end there was joy and rebirth. This helps me feel better that even though I may be going through something painful, God will take that pain and make something good from it.
