๐ Credit Education Lesson: The 30-Day Rule
Law: FCRA 15 U.S.C. ยง 1681i (Procedure in case of disputed accuracy) The Lesson: When you dispute an item on your credit report, the bureaus are legally required to conduct a "reasonable reinvestigation" free of charge. Here is the kicker: They must complete this within 30 days of receiving your dispute. If they cannot verify the information within that window, or if the furnisher doesn't respond, the law says the item must be deleted. Your Move: 1. Send your dispute via Certified Mail. 2. Track the delivery date. 3. Count 30 days + 5 days for mailing. 4. If they don't respond or verify? Demand deletion under Section 1681i.
