@David Dupont Good morning David, For a 2025 or 2026 Civic, deals are tight right now, especially on hybrids. A good OTD price depends a lot on your local market, trim, and taxes. The key to getting a strong deal is solid market research before contacting dealers. That's how you know what's actually realistic. Start here: Hit up visor.vin first it's hands down the best for seeing the full market at a glance, with clean sorting by price/mileage, price history, and no BS distractions. Then cross-check with AutoTempest (pulls from everywhere), Cars.com, Autotrader, and a few dealer sites. Find at least 7-10 new Civics that match what you want—same year, trim, options, even color if it matters. I copy the links into a simple Word doc, with space under each to note quotes or details when I call/email dealers. Way better than spreadsheets for this process imo Once you've got that list built, you'll have market research to shop dealers confidently. John

I just added a Do Say / Don’t Say Car-Buying Checklist to the classroom inside Coach John’s Car Buying Community. It shows you exactly what to say and what not to say — so you don’t give dealerships leverage before negotiations even start. If you haven’t explored the free resources in the classroom yet, now’s a good time. 👉 Jump into the classroom and grab it for free.

📌 Abandoned Deals — Up-For-Grabs
This thread is for sharing really good OTD deals that you ended up not taking. Sometimes when you’re getting 7+ OTD quotes, you come across a great deal — but you choose a different vehicle, change direction, or only need one car. If you think the deal is still strong and worth sharing, this is the place to post it. You can also post a deal here if you’d like others to look it over and give feedback on whether they think it’s a good deal. The goal is to: - help others see what a good deal looks like - give members the chance to pick up a deal that’s still on the table Anyone is free to take an OTD and walk into the dealer with it. If you share a deal, just include whatever basic details you’re comfortable sharing.

Out the door estimate is the only number that matters in car buying. If the dealer has any add-ons or extras you will see it on the quote. Also if applicable you will see the taxes and doc fee.
Why I don't like New Year's resolutions.
Hey everyone, I’ve never been huge on New Year’s resolutions. If you’re already the person at the gym and working on yourself consistently throughout the year, January just means the place gets packed for two weeks… then empties out again. Effort is always good, obviously. But we don’t need a new calendar to tell us what we already know is right. The best time to start is now! So, heading into 2026, here’s one practical mindset shift that will actually save you and your family real money on a car: Start with the numbers, not the emotions. Before you ever step foot in a dealership, get written Out-The-Door (OTD) quotes from multiple dealers. That means the total price—everything included, drive-out price, no surprises. - Don’t negotiate monthly payments. Negotiate the total OTD price and all fees together. - Ask for that OTD number in writing (via email) before you even visit. - Use those written quotes to make dealers compete—show one a lower quote from another and watch them scramble to beat it. - Know which fees are legit and which are optional junk add-ons you can refuse. My personal goal for 2026? Not just keep myself from getting scammed, but help out friends and family who need it too. Be our brother’s keeper. Anyway, that’s it from me for now. Hope you all have a good start to the year. John
