Weakside Cutting Rules?
Just curious what everyone does with weakside players in certain situations when playing conceptually? Like if the ball is driven baseline, do you have a set rule? What about middle drives? What about on post catches? Thanks
Box and 1 Offense
So we have been playing some games and I have a Freshman Racker who is pretty special. Most teams have been trying to zone us and keep her and my Dragon from getting inside. We have been able to shoot well enough and rebound well enough to offset that for the most part. Well last Tuesday we played the #22 ranked team in the state and they ran a box and 1 against us. Haven't seen them run it all year. They would deny my racker from catching and the only way we could get it to her was off of sets, but since I've switched to running Conceptual Offense I haven't put in too many sets. Just 5 in case we wanted to do something after a timeout. What would you guys run against a Box and 1 when they are denying your racker from catching?
Race and Space Question
First year running Race and Space. Purchased a shot clock and we play 2 vs. 2 Bolt, Flow Game, 4 on 3 West Virginia, and Power Play everyday. We have gotten to where on a miss we can beat people down the floor and really take advantage when we sprint ahead. Where we run into issues is that my Dragon is my second best driver, but is sometimes away from the basket when it goes through the net and we don't get it to the racker quick enough. Do I need to change my Dragon? Or how do I go about putting a bigger emphasis on getting it out of the net and inbounded quickly? When she's by the rim, we get it out quickly, it's just when she's up top that we struggle. Thanks for any help/advice.

@Latrice Crawford Coach, this is our first year running the 3-2. It is also my "secondary" defense that I use just to change pace for 2-3 possessions and get back into the Syracuse 2-3. I've morphed it from Sharmen White's 3-2 and Robert Jones' 3-2 from Championship productions if you want to look into it. Last year I had a big post who was the only way we could score so I ran the Syracuse 2-3 because it was slow enough to keep her from getting winded and kept her from getting into foul trouble too bad. The combination of those 2 DVD's keeps the backside guard rotations the same as the Syracuse zone, but adds a lot more matchup to it. In the 3-2, I put my longest/most athletic girl up top and adjust how far she comes out based on our scout. If they can shoot, I'll actually pick her up at the Volleyball line or jump circle. Once it is passed to the Wing, that is our "matchup". I just tell my girls to keep them on a side, and we line up our head with their high shoulder with toes pointing to the sideline. Everyone else gets to gap and we try to make them shoot tough 2's. "Don't let them shoot where they catch" is what we call a tough 2. How far we come out really depends on their ability to shoot. Everyone else is in Gap Defensive spacing. I really believe in the Lock Left and plan to fully switch to that next year. I just have 2 seniors (the big and a forward) who can't move laterally quick enough to make me comfortable with man, but score and rebound enough to play for us.

I think I can put more of an emphasis on getting to the front of rim area. I like the no bounce part Coach! I'll add that to today and it can transfer to any defense. From memory, I think she does a decent job with that, but that is something I can actually measure and show her in film too.

John Howard, year 8 overall. 2nd as a Girls HC in West Texas. Last year our defense was solid but our offense was STAGNANT!!! In the Spring started to install playing .5 basketball, with Race and Space and Rose Series Concepts. We look like a completely different team. AD, parents, and kids all seem to like the new style of play.

@Evan Grantham Coach, where are you at now? I'm in Stanton so small 3A. .5 Really made my girls play lot faster and way more aggressive. Especially once they began to understand gap principles.
