What a pain in the foot!
I’m having an issue with my left foot for 6 months and continues to be aggravating. It has been diagnosed by a sports medicine physician I see as metatarsalgia and by a podiatrist I saw as a neuroma. X-rays and MRI were both negative. I have had two steroid injections that weren’t helpful. I have iced, massaged, rolled my foot on PVC pipe, and done other exercises. Anyone have any thoughts as to what it might be and what I. Old do to help it? Thanks

It was a gradual onset that I would notice when walking or running. The pain would be experienced around the area of the 3rd-5th toe. Typically it would be most severe for the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile, ease up through 1/2 to 2.5 miles, and then start being painful again the last 1/2 mile. On two occasions it was so painful, I he’d to call my wife to come pick me up. After seeing the podiatrist I went to a FeetFleet for running shoe fitting. A wider shoe and a shoe with wider toe box, didn’t really help. Since it seemed that wearing socks aggravated it, I experimented and went sockless or barefoot for three weeks, which seemed to help. I then tried a bike ride with my bike shoes on and thought that I had a stress fracture. That was last week and since then I’ve gone back to sockless and barefoot as much as possible. I have an appointment again tomorrow with sports medicine. For activity, I weight train, road bike, and walk 10k steps daily. Interestingly enough, on leg training day, calf raises aren’t comfortable . I’m maintaining as far as calories. I’m in good health and get adequate rest.

@James Johnson I would say that around that time. I purposefully began tracking step count and aimed for 10k plus steps per day. I would add that the pain is a burning type primarily between 4 and 5th toe. I’m wondering if inflammation is centered around a nerve as I also periodically have some numbness in that area as well.
