TLDR; Win one of my favorite books. Deadline Thursday, June 3, 2026 at 11:59 Eastern Time. Read anything good recently? Something that’s not very mainstream, but nonetheless entertained you, made you feel something, or taught you something. I don’t want recommendations for bestsellers or Kindle pirate werewolf romance smut. Whichever THREE people send me the best recommendations win a fantastic prize. 👉 I will mail you a copy of the most surprising and entertaining book on influence I’ve read in the past 10 years. (No, it’s not Influence by Cialdini. That would be lame.) I recently struggled through Games People Play by Eric Berne. The Jim Camp upline. Interesting for two things: 1. Fun/unsettling examples of stuff we do throughout life, even self-destructive, painful stuff, because it ultimately serves some purpose for us psychologically. 2. The idea that we need to fill up time or we go crazy. (Everybody says they want more free time. No you don't.)

@Nick Bandy Yep. Most people can handle doing absolutely nothing for about 20 minutes if you rebrand it as meditation. Beyond that and psychosis starts to set in. The first half of Berne's book is an abstract discussion of the difference between a pasttime, a game, and some other category of thing that he has invented. Really dry, hard to understand, and entirely unnecessary for the second half of the book, where the games are catalogued.

@Nick Bandy They used yellow highlighting on their CTA. It would have been even better if they had a red dashed blinking border around it too, and maybe a reason to act now.
