Hey guys! I hope everything is well with you. After years of trying to find the best system for teaching people how to MASTER jazz comping… I spent the whole last week putting different pieces together and recording a video with the title of “Jazz Comping Mastery”. Since I put a tremendous amount of effort into it, I was thinking of selling it like a mini course for $99… But since it’s Thursday, and I hate selling information, I decided to just give it away to you guys for FREE… Make sure to use it to the best of its ability, because I shared everything you need to master comping… And remember, these videos are free for you to watch, but they take a lot of time, energy, and effort into putting it all together, scripting, recording, editing, posting, etc. So make sure to really dive deep and use them to the best of your ability… Here is the link to the Jazz Comping Mastery mini-course: Let me know if you found it useful. In the Step 3 examples, Marc plays the chord staples and then changes up the chord near the end of each bar. Is this just experience kicking in or are there some guidelines he's employing here?
After chatting with a couple of you we have decided to do Misty as our december challenge. For those interested there is a version in ''the vault''. Once again thank you to those who posted ''blue bossa'' and it's never too late to post one of our challenges... the deadline is just to push us a little.
The Army always stresses to "read the Flippin question" except with profanity. Well I was really excited about jumping on Blue Bossa for October because I had never played it and did some work on it then realized I was supposed to be working on Blue Monk LOL! Anyway, I decided to upload an improv on Blue Bossa before I got started on Blue Monk. Now I"ll get down to the proper homework for Blue Monk. https://youtu.be/229FrO99Pd4
Hi guys. My first video submission here as I am as well a member of the JGA program from Marc. I took the opportunity and time to re-learn the Autumns Leaves Chords Melody arrangement of Marc. So this time I feel much more comfortable (would be bad if not….) than some months ago. Still room for improvement 😂 Let me know your thoughts……. https://youtu.be/zvWDWryhmNE?si=WqOOhl9KfWdRc0yD
I've been trying to bump up the tempo a bit on these tunes. Here is some comping and off the cuff improv of Charlie Parker's tune. My previous phone went AWOL on a mountain bike ride. Here I'm testing out my new phone plugged into my audio interface. There seems to be a bit of lag, but the sound doesn't seem too bad. https://youtu.be/tLJQ5NooTu8?si=EpFcYdXf2ykGF9Sz
@Nick Albano one of the best practice tools. I have two inputs/outputs on mine. I run my guitar into one and bass into the other and out to their respective amps.
@Thomas Gore thanks. Half the battle with improv is just doing it enough to get comfortable with it. As with anything, it starts getting easier with practice. 👍

My vote is for "Misty." I don't know if I've ever heard it. Not super opinionated though. I've already recorded a snippet of one Christmas tune, but I'm not opposed to doing another.
@James Rumora I think you're right. I don't loopback on my interface which is probably why I couldn't record a second track, since OBS won't natively recognize the second input on my interface. I imagine there's some software out there that can bridge this gap, but I haven't invested much time into looking into it.
Thanksgiving is over for the US folk, which usually means its time to start thinking about Christmas. Tonight I was playing around with this idea a bit. https://youtu.be/K_BmXQ8ZQn0?si=69mRFkoTADo_B6re
It's not perfect but this is a picture if where i'm at today. I'm really happy i'm starting to get the comping for myself thing. Still lots of work to do but i'm getting the idea. https://youtu.be/oMOy2FvnOyg?si=41KUltj_CZlQ-1a0
I am a bass player from Belgrade, a self-taught musician trying to figure out basic stuff about jazz. For a while I used to play guitar too, but I decided to switch back to basss eventually. I like classic jazz, stuff such as Montgomery, Burell and Green, but also the artists like Scofield and Metheney.
Welcome. Playing bass and guitar can be a nice advantage. I mostly focus on guitar these days, but I like creating my own backing tracks on bass then play over them with the guitar. It's a lot of fun.
