I am a director from Sao Paulo. I think in pictures and out of order, and I wanted an AI that could work on my actual project instead of a chat window I keep copying into. So I built Beat, a free Mac app, and connected it to Claude through MCP. You lay your whole film on one visual canvas: beats that branch, references, characters, locations, and an overhead Set Plan for lighting and blocking. Then you link it to Claude in one click, and the AI works on the real project: continue the spine, build a character bible, restructure acts, even adjust the Set Plan. It also exports a Markdown file with prompts built in, so any AI chat can pick it up. It just reached 1.5 this week, which adds location scouting on a map and a much faster app. It runs on Mac, works offline, no account, no tracking, and it is completely free. The screenshots show the full board, the location scouting view, and the Set Plan. It is at beatforfree.com if you want to try it. If anything feels off or missing, I would love to hear it. I am Joao, a director represented by Creme Company, part of the Boiler hub. Lived in New York for a while, now back in Sao Paulo. Instagram is @____lutz if you want to say hi.
