A Little Collaborative Fun
@Timothy Colomba I hope this is alright... I thought it would be fun to engage in one of those "write the next line" threads. I'll go first: The old man's bushy white eyebrows rose above his blue eyes like two clouds floating by on a summer afternoon. He leaned forward until I could see the pores on his bulbous nose and wrinkled cheeks. "Sonny," he said to me in his southern drawl, "they sell everything from pens to popcorn machines, but if you can't handle a little supernatural shock and awe every now and then I'd stay far far away from that store." ...

OneDrive makes it easier for me to write on my phone when I'm on the go. Lol a smart phone also makes that possible. Also sound cancelling earbuds and a timer help me get into deep focus mode. I also find it helpful to close my office door and make the only light be that from my computer monitor. Oh and my ergonomic style keyboard helps take some strain off my wrists. I would like to get in the habit of using a notebook or OneNote to keep better notes of character and world details as I write, it comes in handy to have a quick reference when writing longer stories or series. It is something I need to train myself to do though.
What comes easiest to you in writing?
For me, it's the ideas. I've got tons of ideas and writing that first draft usually is the easiest part. I know that's not the case for everyone though. How about you? Where's your major strength with writing?

Generally I'm really good at holding the world and magic systems used in my stories in my head so the first draft is quite cohesive, however that is a challenge now that I'm a stay at home mom with constant interruptions and not a lot of alone time. I've adapted by writing smaller, simpler projects. So I'm working on a series of children's stories and a modern Western romance novella, it's easier to hold the narrative of a story without a bunch of made up places and rules to keep track of.

@Timothy Colomba yes it is a matter of compassion for myself to say, I don't have capacity to write the complicated stuff right now but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy some kind of writing. I think the habit of writing every day no matter what kind of writing is will benefit me when I'm back to the bigger projects
How do you write?
No judgement, we’ve all got our systems I’m sure. What’s your word processor of choice?

Ok so I use word, but sometimes if I'm not at my computer or I'm on the go I will send myself an email with parts of a story

Camilla by Madeleine L'Engle was my favorite growing up. There was a small hardcover copy in my school's library and I'd get it out once or twice a year. I was the only person who'd checked it out for like 20 years. My boyfriend (now my husband) offered to steal it for me and I was horrified. It belonged in the library. But I cried because a year later I went to get it and they'd donated it. My husband tried to buy a copy online but it turns out that edition was vintage and collectible and worth $100 Lol I think about that novel a lot. One could say it was my security blanket book.
