If you work in death care - as a funeral celebrant, death doula, funeral director, interfaith minister or end of life carer - and you want to build your presence so the families who need you can actually find you, you're in exactly the right place. The community is free to join. With free & paid classes added all the time. And this is very much a living, growing thing - built for a global community of death workers doing things differently. Start by watching the welcome video here. Then have a look around, introduce yourself in the community feed, and let me know what you most want to learn... Welcome to The Visible Death Worker 👋 Really glad you're here. 🖤

It’s amazing to me the amount of time and work you’ve put into this and continue to spend on this community for free! (At least partly free) I am IMMENSELY grateful, as I truly live check to check, struggling to make ends meet, parenting an 18 y/o son w Down syndrome and autism, working part time in a restaurant (what I’ve done my entire working life these past 25 years), while slowly but surely building Metamorphosis Death Care & Memorials (www.slodeathdoula.com) for my tiny San Luis Obispo (SLO) county, here on the central coast of California. I’m loving every moment of this past year, since I first found that a death doula was a “thing” (I’d already felt the pull to grief work and memorial facilitation, as it was something I was already occasionally doing by random “accident”), but I’m still experiencing discouragement, confusion, self doubt, and roadblocks. This online support community means SO much to me! And I’m excited to continue growing with your guidance to help me! Thank you!

@Amy Firth me toooo💕 I’m fully immersed in this new endeavor that has opened to me, just so fired up and passionate about ALL the different ways death advocacy can take shape. I just struggle with the confidence, consistency, and focus to make it all happen on my own, especially because I struggle daily with the many facets of adult ADD, decision paralysis and struggling with task analysis/prioritizing, etc., and NEED a support system and accountability “partners” to keep pushing forward!
🐦‍⬛ Visible Friday #11: Whose Community Is This, Anyway?
Hello my darling Vizzy D's - ! We just ticked past 200 people in this little community. And we only started dreaming into all this eleven weeks ago. Eleven weeks. I keep sitting with that number, turning it over. When I started this I thought it was about visibility 'out there'. Being seen in our communities, online, in the industry. And it still is that. But watching this group take shape week by week, I'm noticing something else happening. We're becoming more visible to each other too. There are threads of connection forming here that I don't want to lose or let sit quiet in the comments and scroll past. So this week I want to slow down and ask you something honestly, because I don't want to build this community on guesses. 🐦‍⬛ Visibility Prompt for this week: What would genuinely serve you here? What do you actually want to get out of this group and the people in it? We're all coming at this work from different angles, different stages, different corners of the industry, so I know there's no single answer. But I'm keen to understand how we support each other well as this thing keeps growing... To get the conversation started, here are some shapes this could take. Pick as many as take your fancy, add your own, tell me what's missing... 1) Themed Deep Dives - ticketed online calls where we sit with one specific topic properly, instead of skimming past it in a scroll. Things like the trend toward direct cremation, VAD, business models in death care or the inner work this job demands of us. Sessions get recorded and made available in the classroom as ticketed Masterclass recordings afterwards, so the conversation keeps earning for the people who showed up and did the work. Profits shared amongst presenters. 2) Regular free drop-in calls - maybe every 6 to 8 weeks, no agenda beyond showing up. 3) One-to-one sessions with me - ticketed audit or planning sessions where we look at where you're at and map out what's next for you. 4) More self-paced courses - websites, newsletters, that kind of practical groundwork.

I’m EXTREMELY interested in all of these EXCEPT the regular drop ins lol. I’m the opposite of the above I guess. Maybe cuz I already have weekly mentor hours w my previous instructor… I DEF like the deep dives, BUT I’d rather it be where it’s a live call for the paying attendees who aren’t presenting in order to ask questions in real time, and the. The recording can be purchased from those who didn’t attend the live and sent out to those who DID pay and attend live in order to review as needed. I also would like a 1:1 w you eventually and I’d love a live class tutorial on things like HOW, step by step, to set up and create a newsletter (I don’t know how to set up anything automatic techy like that, and I also am overwhelmed with canva tho I do stumble thru and use it successfully occasionally. A canva tutorial would be helpful for creating social media content and also event flyers, etc.). I loved your suggestion on teaching HOW to run the creative approaches to grief style workshops you mentioned that the DeadGood sisters do!
