Crochet flat in the round tips
The golden rule for flat circles ๐งถ You want to add the same number of stitches every round. Hereโs the cheat sheet most people memorize: Single crochet (sc): increase 6 stitches per round Half double crochet (hdc): increase 8 stitches per round Double crochet (dc): increase 12 stitches per round Treble crochet (tr): increase 18 stitches per round Thatโs because taller stitches need more room to lie flat. Example: single crochet circle (most common) Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring Round 2: inc in every stitch โ 12 Round 3: (sc, inc) repeat โ 18 Round 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat โ 24 Round 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat โ 30 โฆand so on. Each round adds +6 stitches. How to tell whatโs going wrong Curling into a bowl? ๐ Not enough increases โ add 1โ2 more next round. Wavy / ruffled like a frill? ๐ Too many increases โ skip an increase or space them farther apart. Slight curl early on? Totally normal. It often relaxes after a few rounds or with blocking. Pro tip (especially helpful for tight crocheters) If you crochet tight (lots of us do ๐โโ๏ธ): Go up one hook size, or Add one extra increase per round until it lays flat.
