Geographic Scale: Canada is the second-largest country in the world by total area. It is so vast that it encompasses six different time zones. The Name's Origin: The name Canada comes from the St. Lawrence Iroquoian word kanata, which means village or settlement. Jacques Cartier used the word to describe the area around present-day Quebec City. Coldest Temperature: The coldest temperature ever recorded in North America was at Snag, Yukon, on February 3, 1947, reaching -63°C.
