How's your weekend going?
Are you doing anything doggy this weekend? Training? Trialing? Hiking? Playing? What's going on for you? I've been evaluating runs for being in my new Semi-Private Lessons class over on Clean Run and I'm designing courses for that, but my own dogs only got a good ball playing session today. I'm not sure what tomorrow brings for us. I've been working with these flat rubber targets I just got from Clean Run, plus I very much need to finish one of my Whippet's Intermediate Trick Title. :) Hope you all are well and reasonably warm!

We did a bunch of things last weekend.... on Friday we heard we had a lost dog (large Yorkie) from our apt complex (out overnight at this point). Sommer has done some training on Lost Item recovery scent work, so we asked if the owner wanted us to start a search. She did... we got a dog sweater from her in a ziploc bag...I let Sommer smell it near the area where the dog had entered a park across our street.... she put her nose down, went straight into a path.... into the park, down a turn....(all different ways then we normally would go).... she would stop now and then...I let her get a new whiff... then off again ! I have never asked her to track before, but I think she was... we found an area off in the side where the leaves were ruffled up... turns out the dog was found in an area near that spot...... at someone's front yard. We got word that it was found while we were still out (out for 2 hrs), but I think she was looking... Saturday we went to a scent training pop-up.... she found 2 sets of 6 hides, high/ low, novice/ advanced (AKC) Sunday...CWAGS trial...2 legs in Obedience level 1, a 2nd and 3rd place and 2 legs in Rally starter, 2nd and 1st place. We slept on Monday..... hahaha ! This coming weekend...AKC beginner novice

Multiple Dogs?
How do you manage training multiple dogs? Do you train one and crate the others? Have you trained dogs to do stays or something while the others are training? Or something else? Currently, some of mine are fit-pitchers and I train less because of it.

when I had multiples...I had one at a time in my training area....I did also have crates available in my training area so that one could wait in a crate. I have also had dogs wait on a "spot"...I had multiple Newfs...so we had a "spot"....a big spot (!). I also could use gated areas to hold multiple dogs at once so that one could work at a time. the only dog I had who couldn't wait her turn was an Aussie....so she often had to wait outside of that specific room (be upstairs when we were working in the basement training area). I also did a lot of name recognition tethered to a cue....so I would have 4 Newfs in a line...ask one to do something, but not the others...it was quite a challenge, but I think it helped them figure out that "good things come to those who wait"
Coming Soon - Training Help!
Some of you said that you'd like to try the parkour challenge, but your dog didn't have the skills. Well, one particular skill -- go around an object -- makes up, in one way or another, half the behaviors in this entry-level challenge. Over the weekend, I plan to record video teaching you how to train this foundation skill, which is useful not only for Parkour but agility, conditioning, and more. Are there other basic/foundation skills for dog sports that you'd like to learn? Post them here!

@Lori Duncan there is an app called YouCut that allows you to splice videos together AND put captions on it....and move them around as you need....It is fairly simple/intuitive to use, but I think there is also a Youtube video on how to use it....there is a fee ( but I think it's 6.99 per YEAR !) At the end of it, you can send it to your youtube channel....
How is Everyone?
I've been a bit absent since I've been overwhelmed with holiday stuff and various unexpected problems. Today I'm wearing a vest that's tracking the camera that I swallowed for a GI test! I'm spending the day trying to keep the dogs from bumping it while I try to function. Good times! How are you all doing with the Parkour Challenge? I have seen that a few people have been participating. Has anyone fully completed their entry and sent it in? Don't forget that this is an awesome opportunity to title in a new organization and sport without paying a registration fee! Plus, you'll get all the guidance you need to make your entry a winner! Here is the link to the info: https://www.skool.com/backyard-dog-training-matters-2491/december-canine-parkour-anywhere-challenge?p=7e3e99b5 It's a pinned thread, too, so you can check it anytime. In other news, I finished a second coloring book before Christmas! Unfortunately, it didn't make it out in time for Christmas gift-giving, but if you could still use a gift for your veterinarian, vet tech, or dragon-loving friend (or yourself!), please check out "When a Dragon is Your Veterinarian!" (Here's the link: https://a.co/d/0KlXlNV) If you'd share it with your friends and on social media, I would appreciate it! Let's get ready for a great 2026! What are your dog training plans and goals?

Gosh... that camera sounds.... interesting... We are not working on this challenge at the moment... we have higher level titles in this organization, so I was not certain where we fall... BUT we had other stuff to finish up/ work on... and Sommer tried to have digestive issues, too
THE DECEMBER CHALLENGE IS COMING
We plan to have info ready for you by the beginning of next week! Reminder to be on the lookout for the following items to use in the upcoming challenge: *Something for your dog to get one with two front feet *An item that is dog-elbow-height or lower for your dog to get completely on *Something your dog can jump over *Something your dog can go under *Various items your dog can interact with (like going around, etc.) ***Agility equipment is allowed but may not be used as intended for agility (you can go under a jump but not over it, for example). Looking forward to it!
