2 signs a day training
Sommer and I are working on "2 signs a day"... rally signs and rally freestyle element signs.... We can work outside currently in our breezeway (once I blow the pollen away) and I tried a new camera angle. It's very bright at either end so tried it this way instead... Here's one video of working "call front, two sidestep to right/ left". I break it down to also just work front... https://youtu.be/x9uncYEwNA8?feature=shared

@Brenna Fender depends on the judge....*i* would like the sit to be straight.... so that the correct spot is there for all of them.... she likes to do "things" , so she doesn't find this draining....I just need to give her the space to figure out how to move her bum..... hahahaha
Are you competing or training this weekend?
Let's talk about it! I competed last weekend in Fetch for the first time and it was a blast! My Whippet, Parker, got his Novice title. I think the next available Fetch event for me isn't until August, although I'm not sure about that. Hopefully we can be there. I think we're ready for Intermediate now. I'm spending today working on videos for my job (all the videos are starring my dogs, so that's cool). I'll post one of them in the comments so you can see what I'm doing. Tomorrow I'm going to do some conformation training with my English Toy Spaniel puppy. What's up for you?

@Brenna Fender Section 18. Rally Choice Class. All dogs are eligible to enter this class and may continue to compete indefinitely. There are no jumps in this class and all signs are judged off leash. Verbal encouragement, multiple commands, and/or inaudible signals using one or both arms and hands are allowed; the handler’s arms need not be maintained in any particular position at any time. Penalties will be assessed for handlers clapping their hands, patting their legs, touching the dog or any physical corrections. Failure of the dog and handler to perform the sign correctly on the first attempt will result in a ten-point deduction for an incorrectly performed (IP) sign, and the handler should move along without attempting a retry. For additional scoring information, please reference Chapter 2, Section 30, Scoring. The Choice course will have 15 to 20 signs (Start and Finish not included) with a minimum of three and a maximum of seven stationary signs. Courses will have a minimum of four Master level signs, a minimum of three Excellent level signs, and a minimum of three Advanced level signs. When this class is being judged by the same person judging the Master class, the course will be the same except the jump will be replaced with any other class sign. Section 19. Rally Choice Title. The letters RC may be added after the name of each dog that has been certified by at least two different judges to have received qualifying scores in the Choice class at ten licensed or member rally trials. That dog will receive a Rally Choice certificate from the AKC. The letters RC will be followed by a numeric designation indicating the number of times a dog has met the requirements of the RC title as defined in these Regulations. (RC2 for 20 qualifying scores, RC3 for 30 qualifying scores, RC4 for 40 qualifying scores, etc.)

This is seen by most competitors as being after Masters.... but it can be entered at any point.... Since we are training in freestyle, too.... seems kinda natural to go here
How's your weekend going?
Are you doing anything doggy this weekend? Training? Trialing? Hiking? Playing? What's going on for you? I've been evaluating runs for being in my new Semi-Private Lessons class over on Clean Run and I'm designing courses for that, but my own dogs only got a good ball playing session today. I'm not sure what tomorrow brings for us. I've been working with these flat rubber targets I just got from Clean Run, plus I very much need to finish one of my Whippet's Intermediate Trick Title. :) Hope you all are well and reasonably warm!

We did a bunch of things last weekend.... on Friday we heard we had a lost dog (large Yorkie) from our apt complex (out overnight at this point). Sommer has done some training on Lost Item recovery scent work, so we asked if the owner wanted us to start a search. She did... we got a dog sweater from her in a ziploc bag...I let Sommer smell it near the area where the dog had entered a park across our street.... she put her nose down, went straight into a path.... into the park, down a turn....(all different ways then we normally would go).... she would stop now and then...I let her get a new whiff... then off again ! I have never asked her to track before, but I think she was... we found an area off in the side where the leaves were ruffled up... turns out the dog was found in an area near that spot...... at someone's front yard. We got word that it was found while we were still out (out for 2 hrs), but I think she was looking... Saturday we went to a scent training pop-up.... she found 2 sets of 6 hides, high/ low, novice/ advanced (AKC) Sunday...CWAGS trial...2 legs in Obedience level 1, a 2nd and 3rd place and 2 legs in Rally starter, 2nd and 1st place. We slept on Monday..... hahaha ! This coming weekend...AKC beginner novice

Multiple Dogs?
How do you manage training multiple dogs? Do you train one and crate the others? Have you trained dogs to do stays or something while the others are training? Or something else? Currently, some of mine are fit-pitchers and I train less because of it.

when I had multiples...I had one at a time in my training area....I did also have crates available in my training area so that one could wait in a crate. I have also had dogs wait on a "spot"...I had multiple Newfs...so we had a "spot"....a big spot (!). I also could use gated areas to hold multiple dogs at once so that one could work at a time. the only dog I had who couldn't wait her turn was an Aussie....so she often had to wait outside of that specific room (be upstairs when we were working in the basement training area). I also did a lot of name recognition tethered to a cue....so I would have 4 Newfs in a line...ask one to do something, but not the others...it was quite a challenge, but I think it helped them figure out that "good things come to those who wait"
Coming Soon - Training Help!
Some of you said that you'd like to try the parkour challenge, but your dog didn't have the skills. Well, one particular skill -- go around an object -- makes up, in one way or another, half the behaviors in this entry-level challenge. Over the weekend, I plan to record video teaching you how to train this foundation skill, which is useful not only for Parkour but agility, conditioning, and more. Are there other basic/foundation skills for dog sports that you'd like to learn? Post them here!

@Lori Duncan there is an app called YouCut that allows you to splice videos together AND put captions on it....and move them around as you need....It is fairly simple/intuitive to use, but I think there is also a Youtube video on how to use it....there is a fee ( but I think it's 6.99 per YEAR !) At the end of it, you can send it to your youtube channel....
