11x14 oil on canvas “ Way Home”
I took this photograph on the way home from work this past December. Decided it would be interesting to paint. The tree is well known in my area and there is even a Facebook page for it I’ve been told. Winter scenes are not something typical I do because I love color but it was still fun to paint

@Constance Ostlund Constance, The tree has survived many a storm and we have seen multiple branches fall over the years. It still has stood the test of time. When you see it combined with sunrises and sunsets it’s just a beautiful thing for us. If ya didn’t grow up in our area some might not appreciate it as much. We live in northwest Pa. Thank you for your kind words. Happy painting!!!

The previous picture was not quite finished. I added the other telephone poles and lines.
"Wilderness Horses," 20x16
Done in acrylics. I loved the resource photo with its neutrals and the motion of the horses and had to paint it!

Painting is wonderful! I have wanted to paint horses but haven’t worked up the courage to. Painting animals seems overwhelming. Good job

@Pamela Britton that is pretty neat. I’ve been doing the same approach on my landscapes and sometimes I actually like the “wipe out” effect better for some reason

Newbie Hello
Hi, I'm Laura. I'm from the USA - FL to be exact. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of Helene! I've been painting for about 5 years. I love painting seascapes in particular, but I'll paint anything! I began with acrylics (as it seemed the least expensive way to test the waters), but oil is the medium for me. I am a realistic painter, but am also trying to loosen up a bit - pseudo-impressionistically. I love the water and see SO many beautiful paintings by other artists. I would love to be able to paint water so realistically that it looks like if you touched the canvas your hand would come away wet! When I can't seem to translate what I see in my head through my hands to my canvas I can become quite discouraged. I need to overcome that hurdle by both improving my skills and by changing my mindset to welcome my "failures" as lessons - I have had a lot of lessons! I have learned so much from such great artists as you, Sam, and The Tisch. I started my acrylic journey with Mark Waller. Irina Cumberland is my clear water maestro. I've certainly set the bar high, but what's life without any challenges? I've attached a pic of some of my work - some finished, some in progress. Thank you for having me!
