WOTD: Caravelle!
I decided to bring the Caravelle blue-dial with the rocket seconds hand out of the box today, it hasn't been on my wrist in quite a while. Vintage 1970, the peak of the space race.

The Exact Price Where Watches Stop Getting Better
Have you ever wondered where the dividing line was where you're paying more and not getting a fundamentally better watch? This video by The Watch Bros explains exactly where that line is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yLST0ftl0k

@Chad Smith All three are out of my price range, but they're great to look at!

True. If you bought a Rolex at peak hype a few years ago it's worth less than you paid for it now.
I Understand the Allure (a case against fakes)
I'm sure a lot of people when first starting out down the endless rabbit hole that is watch collecting, loving, appreciating etc. were tempted by or at least entertained the idea of getting a fake luxury watch. I know when I first started down this path I came across a few and was blown away at how unbelievably good some of those super clones looked. The materials and attention to detail were incredibly done and you could get one for around $5-600. So as the title states, I understand the allure. We become enamored by a certain model. We spend so much time looking at different photos from every angle. We read articles about them and watch reviews online and eventually we're completely dug in. For me it wasn't at all about trying to fool anyone, but just the idea of having something SO close to the real thing in my hands to admire. The temptation is real. Otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them obviously. I'll preface this by saying I never fell prey to the temptation and looking back I am so glad I didn't. I'm not the first or thousandth person to say this but it is true that no matter how well it's made and no matter if you're the only one on earth that knows it's fake, it will NEVER bring you the joy you think it will. Things to consider: Wouldn't you feel like a fraud? Is it worth it? Do you want to walk around with the thought in the back of your mind that someone might recognize it and expose you? I think you may grow to resent it more than the old man's beating heart beneath the floorboards. Now the thought doesn't even cross my mind, but I still try to convince others not to do it without shaming them over it because again, I understand the impulse. The three pictured are one's I got with the intent of making a video about this subject. I didn't pay anything for them and they're not even good clones honestly. I thought I would put this in the general discussion in case anyone had their own stories or thoughts concerning the subject. Salud!

I will happily buy an homage watch with another's logo on the dial (Pagani Design, Cadisen, Baltany, etc.) and I have, but I will never buy a fake at any price. First, they're illegal to sell, and second, you never know what you're getting. If the price is exceptionally low you're likely getting a $25 Chinese mechanical movement that may last for a while, or it may not. The real quality fakes can fool most people, but it's still not a real Rolex or Tudor or Patek. If you simply MUST flex with a luxury watch, pony up for the real deal.

Very true. These watchmakers take an SW300, change the rotor for a branded one and maybe change a couple of gears that are visible with the back off or through an exhibition caseback, then give it a new number and try to pass it off as an in-house movement. They bury the actual origins of the movement so far down in the documentation that no one will ever read it. I think this is disingenuous at best and blatant misrepresentation.
Blue Monday!
It's a blue linen shirt day (91 degrees right now), so the Phylida Seamaster 300M homage gets the wrist. Had a massage at the chiropractor, so I had to get the palm tree shot!
