A gift from the fairies
I noticed an unfamiliar flower sitting on the ground, I picked it up and looked for the plant it came from. I didn’t see any other matching flowers anywhere in sight. I looked up to see if it had fallen from a climbing vine. I looked beneath, along the edges, and all around the growing plants in that area. No match.

Oak galls, aka oak apples
Hey Y'all 🤗 It's such a pleasant morning here near Nashville. We got a good bit of rain yesterday and the temperature is my idea of perfect (45°F/65°F).👌 The sun woke me up right at 6am and I got to lay in bed for a bit. 😊 Then I made some 🧈coffee and slowly stepped outside, putting my still-warm-from-bed bare feet on the cool moist earth and breathing in deeply, I smelled flowers. 🥰 Ahhh... Then I saw these Oak galls glowing with the dawning sun 😍 They're large, like 2 1/2 inches! You may know about them being used for ink, but did you also know that their inner pith can be used to stop bleeding? Here's the link to that info, Oak Galls Medicinal Uses - Kami McBride https://share.google/mhPGdHYCSFhoGb30g

We used store bought, powdered Oak gall, for pre-treatment (mordant) on our natural fiber fabrics in a dyeing course. I just followed the instructor’s directions without knowing the science behind it.
Field Flower Press recommendations
I bought a new field (pocket) flower press from Ace hardware last weekend. It's a cute, compact accordion style press and it came with extra sheets of paper to press findings in between the accordion. As I tested filling up the press, I discovered that it actually wouldn't close with all the sheets in!! How am I supposed to be out and about and not use the entire press in one go? 🤨🤨 So, I cut a slit in the back of the book/press, and now it can close when it is completely full. I recommend doing this with a knife or exacto before using your field flower press. 🫡🌸☘️

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback and modification/problem solving idea too! It’s so practical for a day trip. Flower pressing is a branch of foraging and re-wilding too!
How much?
Now a free abundance is starting to arrive from nature , how much of the food you eat is forage, how much do you grow and how much comes from a sustainable source?

I could survive being lost in the woods for a week or more. I’d loose weight, but I could survive. I fantasize about meals created entirely with foraged edibles but the reality is far, far, from that! Truthfully, I would starve if you took away Trader Joe’s.

Lover of Long-leafed pines. Pockets bulging with forest & seashore finds. I am learning from nature’s reciprocity and resilience.
