🔥 DISCUSSION: What’s ONE thing you stopped doing as a trainer that actually made your players better?
If you’re here, it’s because you’re trying to level up — not just run drills. So let’s talk real for a second… A lot of trainers think doing more = better results. More drills. More moves. More combos. But in my experience… Some of the biggest growth came from what I CUT OUT of my sessions. For me: I stopped overloading players with moves and started focusing on game-real reads + decision making. Less “cone work”… more live reactions. And the results? Way better transfer to games. 👀 So I’m curious… What’s ONE thing you used to do as a trainer that you either: - Completely removed - Or changed your approach on …and it actually made your players improve faster? 👇 Drop it below — could be: - A drill you stopped using - A mistake you realized - Something you used to overemphasize Let’s build a thread that actually helps everyone sharpen their craft.

I’ve been cutting out more of the straight “fundamentals” like trying to make sure they are shooting a layup with the same hand and leg up because it’s just not realistic. I cut out a lot of stationary ball handling too and moved to dynamic and pace work and that seems to be working better as well.

You’ve never trained a pro before, so this is a great opportunity. The problem is, if you leave home, you have no consistent income and the business doesn’t grow. Would you:

I feel like this opportunity could lead to more pro relationships down the line as well as long as you please the g league player. It also is good to use as a resume builder to attract clients I feel like.

I think a high schooler being able to make an open three might be the most important thing.
Smooth
How do you teach a kid to be more smooth and not as robotic?
Stop Reaching-
I suppose there’s no drill of sorts to get a kid to stop reaching and fouling…

I teach to “punch with your chest”. It makes them beat the offense to the spot and bump them with the chest. I think this is just effective as reaching or getting a steal a lot of the time.

I started my training company a little less than a year ago trying to pursue it as far as it can go. I’m also a varsity assistant at my high school.
