Interviews
Hello! @Stewart Ward @Byron Freeman @Jason Ness @Norman Ellerbrock @Ben Shinabery I would love your help to shape a blog I'm writing for NSPS titled 'What goes on behind the scenes' and will detail what being a member of NSPS means, what you do and how it's been beneficial for you and your work. Would you be free to be interviewed/discuss this week? Let me know any times below and we can hopefully get a group meeting or individual meetings set up (dependent on diaries) 🙂

I thought I had replied to this stating that I couldn't make it but apparently, I did not. What did I miss?
Welcome pack for new members
Hello! I'm putting together a welcome pack for new members and so far have quite a lot of content based on the benefits, things to get involved in (newsletters, podcasts, social content.etc) but I also wondered if you had any ideas on what new members would like to receive? Maybe even ideas based off what you would have liked to get when you joined.etc?

I would mimic Stewarts questions. It was a while ago now that I joined NSPS and it was part of joining my states society so my knowledge of NSPS was very limited or non-existent at that time. I would think a majority of new members would be of the younger age so something regarding the YSN would be recommended from myself. I would be interested to see a draft of this packet.
Draft 1 of The Newsletter 📰
Hi All, draft 1 of The Newsletter for comments and tweaks... We will also change the name "The Meridian Report" as apparently there are a couple of survey companies with the Meridian name. I will drop ideas into Skool shortly Paper Title: ? Date: 25th March 2025 Subject: Introducing Project Lighthouse & Monthly Director's News Dear Directors, Let’s be honest - being a state director can sometimes feel like navigating in the dark without a map. You step into the role, keen to make a difference, but figuring out what’s expected, where to get information, and how to best support your members isn’t always straightforward. That’s why we’re launching this monthly update [NAME OF PAPER], to keep you informed, connected, and equipped with the tools you need to succeed. More importantly, it’s about giving you a stronger voice - ensuring your insights, concerns, and ideas shape the conversation at both the state and national levels. This isn’t just another newsletter - it’s your platform to drive change, collaborate, and make sure our profession moves forward together. Welcome to our first ever (and hopefully not last!) update for state directors - a place where we can share insights, updates, and resources to better support each other and the surveyor community. Think of this as your friendly neighbourhood newsletter, minus the boring bits. You get to know first. We’re kicking off this initiative to bring more structure to our communications, so directors have the tools they need to succeed - and maybe even have a bit of fun along the way (no promises, though). Project Lighthouse 💡– A Shiny New Way to Communicate A select group of five directors has been enlisted (don’t worry, they volunteered… mostly) to help shape and improve our communications. We’re calling this initiative Project Lighthouse - because every great operation needs a mysterious-sounding name, right? While we’re still ironing out the details, the goal is clear: better engagement, useful resources, and making sure directors don’t feel like they’ve been thrown into the deep end without a life raft.

I also think it looks great. I am curious as to how this will be sent out. Is it going to be an attachment on an email? I personally would like to see a video newsletter rather than an attachment that I need to open up and read.

The Meridian Report - Monthly News to you from NSPS
One of NSPS's main goals is to improve "internal communications" throughout the state associations. Currently, it is lacking some what. To do so, we want to understand 'what' you would like to know more about. Please use this forum to ask questions, send us information and share stories. To get you started, From a Directors point of view: - What is important to you and your association? - What help can NSPS provide that they don't do already - What will help you in your role as Director? - What do your members need information on? - What about FAQ's we could turn into content for you to share with your members? If you could let me know by commenting below, that would be great. Information from this forum will be used to understand and improve overall internal communications. We will also pull together the key information for you to share in a monthly report called "The Meridian Report" Any questions, just ask, Thanks, Elaine

@Elaine Ball I agree with Stewart on all of the comments. The onboarding was a quick run through from the previous director and a "thrown to the wolves" so to speak. I think this all depends on the previous director of each state and the efforts they are willing to put into helping the next. With that there are also differences in the incoming and outgoing directors as far as what they are passionate about and what committees they want to be a part of so there is a disconnect there. Hope this helps.
