3 Reps—Then, Now, and To Come
My neighbor and I decided to work out today. Mind you, we're both in our 30s and definitely not in our "best" physical shape, but knowing we weren't going to suffer alone in this, we set out to complete 3 rounds of 6 workouts. By round 2, we felt every bit of our age and inconsistency! 😂 By the final round, we were a bit sloppy, nowhere near as strong as we started, nor were we as fast as the first round. By exercise 4 of the 3rd set, we needed some motivation. With only 3 reps on this exercise, I said "for those before us... for those with us...and for those to come!" This prompt fired up my neighbor as he crushed his last set. Then it was my turn... "For the man I was... the man I am... and the man I am becoming!" I feel the residue of today's workout as I type this post. My muscles are fatigued, my appetite is on one thousand, and I have a sense of accomplishment for the way I've honored my body, honored my goals, honored my neighbor, and honored my lineage. Being able to move the body is a blessing. Being able to build and strengthen the body my ancestors have awarded me is powerful. We do not get to choose our genetic makeup. It is a gift from those before us. With the use of ancient scientific methods like calisthenics, yoga, and walking/running, we can enhance our minds and bodies. With consistency, devotion, and a supportive community, we can build a strong and healthy example of what it means to "honor your sanctuary" for those to come.
