Soul Cards 1 & 2 Reading
One of the first oracle decks that truly set me on fire was Soul Cards and Soul Cards 2 by Deborah Koff-Chapin. At the time, I had already been reading Tarot professionally for a couple of years, and had even spent some intense months working on a psychic hotline back in the 90s. That was psychic front-line work. People would call in with a free five minutes, open their soul to you at lightning speed, then disappear mid-sentence right before the timer rolled over. Reading like that all day, every day, sharpened my intuition enormously, but eventually burned me out on Tarot almost entirely. After leaving that behind, I drifted away from cards for a while. Then I found Soul Cards. No guidebook, keywords or fixed system Just these visceral, earthy, liminal, dreamlike images to sink into and scry. I was back in the game! Later Deborah released Soul Cards 2, and I couldn’t resist. The two decks have different colored backs, red and blue, which makes them especially fun to work with together. Sometimes I draw one red card as an earthly perspective, and one blue card as a spiritual perspective on the same inquiry. I just did that now for an inquiry into the energy around the launch of this new group. See the attached image. My own take, though I could seriously spend hours exploring these images and continue finding more, is this: The red card gives me the feeling of digging deeply into my own body, which feels very connected to digging into my body of work. There is a strong chest and heart feeling in it for me, and in the image. Maybe more of a revealing than a digging. Maybe both! The work I care most about is something I hold close to the heart. The blue card feels like looking forward. There is a beautiful teal color in the face that today makes me think of the higher heart chakra, the part of us connected to expression, resonance, sincerity, and presence of the heart. It feels like that energy is filling the face itself: what I show, what I express, how I arrive for others. Then, above it, the crown is golden and radiant, almost like sunlight pouring through the top of the head and illuminating the whole being from above.

This is an amazing story. Inspirational. It's hard not to be influenced by your interpretations of these cards, but I'll try. In the first card, she looks as if she's pulling clay from her own body to craft into something. It's only in the very early stages. For me that would be a soul project which is not quite ready for me to share. In the second card, he makes me think of the moon, especially a waning crescent moon, illuminated from above. Perhaps something else needs to 'wind down' before I move into production on the soul project.
