If your dog is breaking on the flush, the problem usually isn't excitement, it's that he's never been asked to hold through it in training. This week: add a thrown bumper to your yard sessions while he's sitting at heel. Toss it five feet to his left. If he moves, the session ends. No correction, no drama, clean reset. Run it until he stops tracking the toss and stays locked on you.

Following along with the virtual training course, there was a point where you mentioned having a paper that explains when to use continuous versus momentary stimulation on the e-collar. Is that document included as part of the virtual training course?

For my almost 1-year-old GSP, I had a few questions based on this session: - When she locks up on point and is right on top of the bird, is there any benefit to picking her up and moving her back? - When flushing the birds, am I doing a disservice by walking straight to the bush she’s pointing at and kicking to flush the bird? Should I kick around the area first before going to where the bird is planted? - When flushing the bird, should I avoid kicking it up altogether and instead reach into the bush by hand? - Any other feedback or pointers you can give would be greatly appreciated. I’m always looking to improve my skills and deepen my understanding of the art of bird dog training.

First and foremost, I think this is a super cool thing you’re doing, Jared. It’s awesome to have a place where like-minded people can come together and get firsthand feedback from THE Jared Moss. Really cool. Regarding my 3-year-old GSP, she has a tendency to creep as soon as I get close to the bush she’s pointing. On the first bird in this video, she creeps, so I figured the flush and the chase would be the reward, and I picked up the bird and moved on to the next one. On the second bird, there wasn’t as much creeping, so I let her chase. Was that the right call? Based on this video, do you have any pointers or general feedback from the session? I tried to cut out as much unnecessary footage of me walking so the focus stayed on the dog and the work.
