Thanks for the heads up. It's easy to switch over yourself but the challenge is convincing your friends and family to convert so you can talk to them😅

Is Kali Linux necessary?
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if any of you run Kali linux on your personal devices. I am currently running Ubuntu and just manually installing the tools I am aware of like nmap and john. Is there a benefit to using Kali or is it just hype? I heard the Ubuntu/debian is what the majority of the web servers are running on the internet. Also I was reading that RHEL/red hat run most of the enterprise back-end infrastructure. That might also be worth familiarizing myself with in future.

@James Murphy Wow bro is set 🤩. I tried running a VM on my old laptop (7GB) using VirtualBox but it was so clunky and slow probably not enough CPU/RAM. So I've just been practicing using my real OS. I haven't been trying anything real dangerous yet so I'm not too worried about messing with things for now but that may not always be the case.
How much is enough?
Hi gang, I've spent the last couple of months learning CLI because for one it is super cool and interesting, but I believe it's essential to truly understanding a computer on a deeper level. Networking is another huge category I only have basic knowledge in. But these two things I know I must understand before I can truly feel comfortable with hacking, or at least I think.... I have a bad habit of thinking I need to be a master of something before I can advance onto the next thing or move onto something that I am really interested in like ethical hacking. I have the fundamental skills under my belt but I'm by no means a CLI or networking guru. My question is, how much should I know before I can start specializing in a specific field instead of having base knowledge across broad computer fields but never a deeper understanding in one. How much should I know how to do with CLI in particular before I'm ready to build on that knowledge?

@Bree Kagwe Healthcare is definitely like that and it's what I'm used to but I'm liking the new way of learning with tech. I guess there are always things you'll miss as you move along but then you fill in the gaps where needed as you become aware of them rather than feeling stagnant until you know all there is to know about a certain thing
France taking the lead for national digital sovereignty??
I apologise is this is old news to some of you guys but it's new and positive news to me. Complete digital dependence on big tech is something that doesn't sit right with me it definitely shouldn't for entire nations which is why hopefully France making this decision inspires other nations to adopt a similar framework. https://techcrunch.com/2026/04/10/france-to-ditch-windows-for-linux-to-reduce-reliance-on-us-tech/

@Ndemi P True, I imagine it starts from each country using the talent in their own backyard. China for example is advancing way more efficiently than USA and look at what they are doing, they graduate more engineers each year than the USA have in total. They are able to build their own infrastructure and software with their own talent.
