Hi everyone! I’m Iput, a father of three unschooled sons, ages 11, 14, and 15. We’ve been on this unschooling journey since our oldest was just one year old. By the way, we’re from Indonesia and currently live in Bogor, West Java. It all started when I began researching the alternative education, homeschooling, and emerging unschooling movement in America during the 1960s and 1970s, especially the work of John Holt. From there, we watched lots of YouTube videos and talks by Ken Robinson, along with films and stories about Summerhill School and Sudbury Valley School. We also read books by John Holt, Patrick Farenga, and Peter Gray. Eventually, we decided to fully unschool all three of our boys. Of course, the journey has had its ups and downs, but overall it’s been exciting and rewarding. We’re grateful to see our sons grow up with a love of learning, a curious mindset, and the confidence to explore the world around them in their own way.
