I'm looking for some advice around how to effectively invest in yourself outside of health and education?

So , one mistake I’ve made in the past with investing in myself , has been buying certain mentorships , consulting calls & courses etc. without being really clear on what I wanted to gain from before starting. This had led me to spend an entire year working with a business coach who was teaching a type of model that I wasn’t aligned with & deep down didn’t want to run / scale. It cost me over £4k for that year. If you don’t have a clear , specific desired outcome before making an investment into yourself , you’re much more likely to either invest into the wrong program or just generally not get the most out of it. If someone told you they wanted to get better at a sport , and asked for sports coach recommendations, but they didn’t know what sport they wanted to get better at. It would be very difficult to point them in the right direction & for them to find the right coach for them. You need to get clear on a vision and be specific with your goals. Once you know exactly what it is you want out of your business / personal life , then you’ll be in a much better position to find the right mentor / program for you. It’s also vital that you define what success looks like to you before jumping into the next investment. Maybe you just want to improve one specific skill such as sales. Or maybe you want to pick the brains of someone who’s ran and scaled the exact business that you’re building. At the end of the day, the best investment you can make is one that’s intentional. Before spending money on anything — mentorship, courses, masterminds , get clear on what problem you’re trying to solve and what outcome you want to create. When you have that clarity, every pound you invest goes further because you’ll know exactly what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to extract real value from the experience. So don’t rush to “invest in yourself” just because it sounds like the right thing to do — take the time to define where you’re heading first. Once you do that, the right mentors, programs and opportunities will naturally start to reveal themselves.
