Debulking Advice
Hey, I need some advice on debulking. So I've been fading my beard pretty easily so far now. I also fade the sides and just line up the back. Only thing is I need advice on how to debulk around the sides. I usually get a mid drop fade. The top of my hair is decently long. How should I debulk? Just flick a three guard open into the bulk or use feathering sheers with the comb? I don't know if I can do clipper over comb just yet.

Yeah, I have a photo on there showing my beard and side taper. The back doesn’t look as clean as I’d like, though. Right now I’ve mainly been focusing on learning how to fade the sides since it’s the easiest area to practice and a good way to build my skills. For the back, I usually just clean it up with a three guard open and line it up, but I’m not really sure how to make it look cleaner, even without tapering it. I plan to learn how to do a back taper later on once I’m more comfortable using the 360 mirror. For now I’m mostly just working on debulking and getting a feel for things. I’ve been thinking about trying to incorporate a two guard in the back for low-stakes practice, but I’m not exactly sure how to approach that yet. When I go to the barber, I usually get a mid-drop fade.
Who I am
What’s going on gents, I’m Xavier, from the NYC area but currently living in Germany. I’ve been cutting my own hair for a few months now. Currently using a clipper set off Amazon I bought a few years ago. Definitely feel like I’m getting better and the hang of giving myself haircuts. I’m looking to get another set of clippers since I feel my set doesn’t fade the way I need it to. Using myself as a learning tool to then get deeper into hairstyles and haircuts.

Looks good, but you also didn't fully knock out the guidelines. Does your clipper have a lever? I've gotten pretty good and fading out the guidelines but you need to play around with the lever quite a bit.

My Experience So Far
My name is Humza. My boy just got Babyliss x Tomb45 clippers. Tried two self cuts; I did side taper and fade in beard and lined up the back. Then he practiced fading the back. Went pretty good. Beard is way easier to fade, just use bigger guidelines. For beard on the sides I went 0 --> no guard --> 0.5 --> 1 --> 2, and then where my mouth / goatee area is I did a number 3. That way your beard tapers down. My friends said it looked professional, especially after the straight razor line up.
