🎂 Happy Birthday, M T! (@80129494)
Today we celebrate someone who doesn't just talk about travel — she builds it. M T has been part of this community from the beginning, and she's one of the reasons New Orleans is actually happening. That's not nothing. Drop a birthday message below and let her know she's appreciated. Post (not comment) so she sees every single one. 🎉 Here's to new adventures and everything that's next — you've earned it. 🥂

A belated Happy Birthday @M T
This stopped me mid-scroll and I had to share it.
A woman who's visited 73 countries solo wrote her #1 tip for solo travelers — and it's not what most people expect. (Link in comments — Travel + Leisure, published March 2026) Her three big points: ✈️ Airports are easier than you think — the signs exist, people are helpful, and you figure it out faster than you expect 🗺️ Getting lost is part of the adventure — some of her best connections happened when she had no idea where she was going 💛 It's not as lonely as you think — solo travel puts you in situations where you actually talk to strangers, and that's where the real stories come from The line that hit me: "It's scarier to think about doing the trip than actually doing it." That's exactly what I hear from people in this community. The fear lives in the imagination. The trip is usually the easy part. What's one thing you were afraid of before your first solo trip — that turned out to be nothing?

Agreed and it's happened to me, too! It's all part of the adventure, so right. It's when we meet the locals, explore the trulyauthentic life and culture of the region, stumble over the best restaurants, the best unique spots in town. Yes, we have to really tune into our gut instincts, and always be cautious. But, the memories are so special!
If someone handed you a free cruise tomorrow, which would you choose?
- Royal Caribbean - Carnival - Norwegian - MSC - Virgin - Disney Then ask people to explain their choice.

Royal Caribbean is good, wasn't a "cruise" person but learned that actually they're kinda fun! I'd need to compare and contrast the others before picking my top one officially. But, always - great spa facilities, great gym/exercise on board, interesting offshore adventures, relaxed and modern food environments with top quality organic, clean international menu items to choose from. Offshore adventures - off the beaten track options in addition to the interesting "tourist" spots. I.e., theme - health options, programs for maximizing better health (food/exercise/yoga/Pilates/offshore health themed experiences). To come back from the cruise feeling refreshed and empowered, not having packed on pounds and needing another vacation!
Which one feels most like the version of travel you're craving right now?
🌴 Relaxing on the beach 🌊 Exploring waterfalls and nature 🍹 Food, music, and local culture What made you choose that one?

All of them.
The hardest part of solo travel that no one talks about
Nobody told me the hardest part of solo travel is not the airport. It is the week before. That is when the doubts show up. What if something goes wrong? What if I hate it? What if I feel like the only person there who came alone? I have talked to hundreds of people over 45 who have been sitting on a trip for months. Sometimes years. And almost every single one says the same thing. "I just need to figure out a few more things first." Here is what I know after helping people actually get on the plane. You will never feel fully ready. But you will feel completely different on the other side. The people in this community have done it. They will tell you the same thing. So let me ask you this. What is the one thing that would have to be true before you would book the trip you keep thinking about? Drop it below. Let's solve it together. That is literally what this space is for. 👇 Drop your answer below. You might be surprised how many people here feel exactly the same way.

Interesting - everyone has a different perspective. I've traveled mostly solo for many years, and love it! Meet new people, have new adventures, not tied down to others' agendas, etc., yet you can join others if you like and if you all resonate over some theme/dream/foodie adventure - total freedom! Yes, organization is super important, especially around the absolute necessary items. It's nice to have those details presented here; that's really helpful for people. But sometimes, when we happen to forget an item we really wanted to explore, agendas still change despite all the planning. And sometimes those circumstances lead to some of the happiest, most exciting moments to remember! Don't you just love travel?
