Drumming to calm and improve your mood
I spent the weekend gardening - our lawn and weeds are out of control after us being overseas for a couple of months - and ended up arguing with my partner - yes it happens to the best of us 😆🙄 As I walked inside to give myself some time out I noticed a message from my daughter on my phone. She sends me voice messages when she can't be bothered to type, so I tapped on it to have a listen - and it wasn't her speaking, but her drumming and toning! Apart from sounding beautiful, what I noticed was that I calmed down almost immediately, and my mood improved - literally within 60 seconds. Now this may because I drum regularly. But I'd be interested to know if you get the same almost immediate results. Try microdosing with your own drum - even 5 minutes a day can improve your mood, increase endorphin release, reduce anxiety and stress hormones. What are some effects you have noticed?

Hello from France! đŸ‡«đŸ‡·
I live in the south of France having escaped the UK 🇬🇧 just before lockdowns. I used to drum with my big Brazilian drum as part of my capoeira (Brazilian martial art). I bought my drum while camping in Brazil on a capoeira training holiday. My mate who was sharing my two man tent looked at me as if to say
.. WTF?? Where are are going to put that??? It takes up the whole tent!! 😳 getting it home was fun! I love drumming but have not explored medicine or meditative drumming (do music festivals count? ) so I’m here to discover and explore.

Love this Alexia! And love your drum! Does it have its own tent now? Music festivals absolutely count. Sometimes people reach that altered state through drugs or alcohol but you can totally get there with just movement and the beat 🙂 I know nothing about capoeira. Where does the drum fit in and how do you play it?

Hi I'm Helen (she/ her/ hers) and I'm on Djaara Djandak (Country Victoria) in Australia. Tell me who you are, where you're from and if you have a drum/ any drums! I have 3 frame drums, a djembĂ© and a bodhrĂĄn. Also if you have drums do you name your drums? And of course we want photos 🙂
