You Cannot Tell Anyone Anything Directly
Here's a lesson I got from a dream that explains why Jesus spoke in parables

Such a great observation - I'd often direct a lesson to someone that didn't need it, in the presence of the person that did. The person that didn't need the lesson would not react emotionally to it - they'd see recognition. The person that *needs* the lesson often responds better when it "comes from the side". A parable is another abstraction that can bypass ego's defence. Though it still needs calibration depending upon the audience.

I just wanted to follow-up from my previous comment. I came across this post I'd screenshot from my Sigung - my Sifu's Sifu. It encapsulates so much of these ideas.
First Principles
What’s your first principle? A starting position is a first principle even though I’m sure some would disagree. So now that you understand what I’m saying… what is it?

Relentlessly questioning my foundations so I don't carry errors forwards.
What is your definition of success?
I understand this is different for everyone, but how did you find your definition of success? I see myself having a pretty closed minded view of what success looks like, so I’d love to hear what others define it as.

@Marco Medina as a Ving Tsun Sifu - this is a great question - my thoughts are always that it comes from preparation. Find a martial arts school near you. First the combination of physical and mental exercise helps you stay centred. Secondly, you will build up real confidence that you can handle a situation if it arises. The amazing thing is that this helps you present yourself as the type of person that is not a victim - and therefore you're first and foremost less likely to encounter these types of issues, and then if you do, you already know how to deal with pressure that's greater than you'd meet on the street - so you can stay relaxed under pressure.

@Gareth Towne Bruce Lee was all about stripping away what was inessential to be left with the truth, nothing extra but what needs to be there in the moment. "Take what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own".
