@Rick Kelly Did you ever consider releasing it as a single? And then maybe a second single, before releasing it/them on an album? Sometimes you can get a head of steam going before the big release...

@Rick Kelly I don't recall where I got the idea from, but I do recall them suggesting that you release one song a month. They actually suggested releasing a bunch of singles as they seem to get more listens overall than an album. In my mind I thought...wouldn't it be funny to release all the songs that you planned to put on the album, and then release the album as a Greatest Hits LP...though I thought of that in jest, the more I thought about it, the better I liked the idea. Of course a lot depends on how you plan on marketing your babies etc. Just giving you more to think about...
Codec not supported in Studio One (Fender Studio Pro)
@Nick Allegro Any idea why I get the "codec not supported" in Studio One when I try and add a video (.mp4 or .mov) file, and how to solve it?

Back to an older topic, and I have a new project where I need to sync some music into a video. Thankfully, this video worked without a hitch. There must've been some sort of glitch with the previous video. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Unfortunately that first project had a quick turn around and I was never able to get past that Codec issue. Hopefully it was just that one time deal.

@Nick Allegro Well I'm glad it's not just me. I've had a few inopportune freezes that happened before saving my work...usually when I have a lot of instrument programs running at the same time. Tho I'm pretty sure other DAW's have their own glitches as well...

After hours upon hours of tutorials here at Mastering.com I still have issues with hearing, especially the nuances of Release Times. Threshold I can hear and understand, but even ratio 4:1 5:1 I still can't tell the difference, let alone the Knee. I've been at this a long time too, so it's not like I've been doing this for a couple months. Wondering if I'll ever hear the subtleties....

@Gavin Hyde Sage advice indeed. Thanks Gavin (And Sam)
Hears Perfection
Anyone have a thought or two regarding Hears Perfection from Brainworx? I’ve been needing to work on calibrating my listening environment both on headphones and with my speakers. Plus, the plug in was on sale, $80 off on Plugin Alliance, so it seemed like a good time to take the plunge. Also, I do have Ollo headphones so my initial thought would be the Hears would be instead of as opposed to in tandem with the Ollo set up. Thanks for all your help and hope all are well and busy.

Hears does work. I used to scratch my head when I'd bring a song to a mentor and he'd tell me that the cymbal is too loud in the left speaker. After taking the "hearing test" that comes with Hears, I could see a 3db boost around 5K in my left ear, and more subtle boosts around that area, and about 1.5 boost in my right ear. Add to this my tinnitis, and this is now a mandatory tool with my plugins. There's a test that you take through your speakers and another for your head phones. Plus I got a nice discount as well. Along with the Paz analyzer, it's no wonder my earlier mixes weren't what they should have been.
What's your DAW?
What DAWs is everyone using and why did you choose that particular one or more? Mine is Steinberg Nuendo 4.3. I also just got FL Studio.

I've used Studio One since it was Studio One 2. Well over a decade I believe and just upgraded to Fender Studio Pro 8. The only thing it doesn't do is have a Scrubbing tool. Still don't understand why it hasn't been included. Otherwise it is capable of more than I'll ever have the time to learn. I have no intention of moving anywhere else!

@Nick Allegro No actually. While the Listen tool lets you click anywhere in a track and start playing the track from that point, the Scrub tool allows you to click and manually drag through the track, as fast or slow as you'd like, if you need to find a specific spot, both backwards and forwards. Kind of like how you would find a splice point on an old reel to reel tape machine. My Melodyne plugin has it and it's great for pinpointing an area that goes by too fast at regular speed.
