From Hostel Owner to AI Beginner
I’m 30 years old, and for the past ten years I managed a 100-bed youth hostel in Italy. We generated around €600,000 a year with a 30% margin and a team of 15 people. In February my contract expired, the property was reclaimed, and I had to shut everything down.Right now, I don’t have a job and I’m trying to figure out what my next step should be. Starting another hostel would require finding someone willing to invest at least €500,000, and good locations are extremely hard to find nowadays. That’s why I’m seriously considering a complete change. Over the last months I’ve been diving into artificial intelligence. I’m following YouTube channels, communities, and creators who talk about AI implementation agencies, and it feels like this might be the biggest opportunity right now — helping businesses integrate AI into their operations. At the same time, I’m honestly scared. I keep hearing that AI will replace a lot of jobs, and many people say: “Either you implement it, or you’ll be overtaken by it.”Sometimes I even feel like maybe the hostel closing was a kind of sign — a way to push me toward a new path I had been ignoring. I genuinely like this field, and I want to study it more deeply. So I’d love your advice:If you were in my position, what would you do? What would you suggest to someone starting completely from scratch and wanting to build a career in AI?

@Robert Flynn G'day mate, appreciate the encouragement! Yeah, it’s definitely a big pivot but you’re right — managing a hostel with real operations, staff, bookings, guests, and all the chaos that comes with it gave me a strong foundation. I’m starting to see how all that experience actually fits really well with AI implementation for businesses. I’m already diving into the strategic side and experimenting with tools like ChatGPT to automate small tasks, and I’ll check out the Coursera course you mentioned. Since you’ve already gone through this path, what would you say is the smartest first project to build to get real hands-on experience?
From Hospitality to AI – How Long to Start Monetizing?
Hello Guys, I’m Alessandro, writing from Italy. For the past eight years, I ran a large hostel in Naples "naples experience hostel" and we were doing around 800,000€ a year in revenue. It was a solid business, but like many hospitality operations, the margins were tight. Even with good yearly revenue, the net profit was around 25% before taxes and something like 15% percent after taxes. I had a team of about 15 employees and when the lease ended recently, I decided not to renew and closed the hostel. That experience gave me a lot — especially about business, people, and systems — but now I’m looking for something more scalable and less tied to physical location and staff. Over the last few weeks, I’ve become really interested in artificial intelligence. I’m starting to study, watch videos, learn from communities like this one and I’m even thinking about documenting my learning process on social media. My idea is to eventually build something with AI, maybe an agency or a community, and share everything I learn along the way. I’m at the beginning, but I wanted to ask those of you who are already working in this field: how long did it take for you to feel confident offering AI-related services? I know this world changes fast, but I’m curious to understand how long it takes before you can start monetizing your skills and get that first client. I’m trying to figure out what to expect in terms of time and learning curve. Thanks in advance to anyone who shares their experience. I appreciate any advice you’re willing to offer.

How can I automate WhatsApp outreach to 9,000 hotels in Naples? 🤖🇮🇹
Hey everyone 👋 My name is Alessandro, and I’m currently working on a project for my father — he’s a taxi driver based in Naples, Italy 🇮🇹. Here’s what I’m doing right now: 🚀 I have an Excel file from the Italian government listing about 9,000 hospitality businesses (B&Bs, guesthouses, hotels, etc.) in Naples. 💬 Every day, I manually contact 50 new properties on WhatsApp. 🕒 The process: copy the business name from Excel → search it on Google Maps → find the phone number → send a message on WhatsApp. This job takes me around 2 hours a day — all manual, no automation yet. 🎯 Goal: reach every hospitality business in Naples and offer my father’s transfer service (airport rides, tours, etc.). Now I’d love to automate or semi-automate this process to save time and stay consistent. My question: 👉 What’s the best way to automate or speed up sending personalized WhatsApp messages at scale (while avoiding bans)? 👉 Are there any AI tools, WhatsApp APIs, or workflows (like n8n, Make, etc.) that could help with this kind of outreach? I’m open to simple or low-cost solutions — I don’t code. Right now I just want to make my workflow faster and more efficient ⚡ If someone here offers this type of automation setup, I’m also willing to pay for the service — feel free to send me a quote 💸 Thanks in advance for any ideas, tools, or examples you can share 🙏
