Last week while heading south to visit family in Florida my wife and I spent a night in Atlanta and I just happened to Google (3-D range near me), and up popped Panola Mountain State Archery park, for me it was a great find. $5 parking $10 to shoot the range. Very natural setting, shots from 10 to 70 yards 25 life-size targets. The moose was at least 8 feet tall but at 70 yards, My first first two arrows failed to find their mark. I think if this range had a yearly get together for Trad archery I would gladly go back there again.. There was only 5 other archers on the range, a group of 4 and a solo, all shooting the Mongolian horse bow style. The 6,900 acre ranch we stayed on in Florida had everything from panthers to piggies roaming around but a bag target was all I could shoot. I met one of the hunters who had a lease there on the 4000 acres of mitigation property and he said he had eight pigs at his feeder last night but he was just after the deer anyway. it was also interesting to see the gators in every little pond or water hole that we passed as we were going out deep into the vast property.

Unfortunately we don’t have a single tree in our backyard, 80ish planted, on our acre, been in the house 5 months, but as a trying to retire carpenter/ builder anytime I do work for people I try and get a 3D target as payment, so far I’m up to 9 in the backyard, plus a bag target and one hanging on the deck for night form work, good lighting lets me shoot as late as I need!! Plus another hunter carries out the head of his stag from the Sth island

Some of the 3D targets from Panola mtn archery park, plus a recent Red stag from NZ, I used to see them while back country trout fishing but I never attempted to get one, I was a catch and release fan… at the time!!

Colin asked me to post a couple of photos of the targets at the 3D range in Georgia, but I’ve forgotten how to insert pics, as I had the range to myself I was able to photograph every shot, now I just have to figure out how to post a couple of them.

I’m hoping to tap into all the knowledge and experience on this site to answer a pressing question, I bought a beautiful new mountain muffler string to suit my (new to me ) Palmer classic recurve, without knowing the correct string length, brace height should be around 7 3/8”-7 3/4”, this new string has it around 8 1/4”, could that cause a problem ??
