Introduce yourself!
So many of our members have been doing this for years. Quick intro, what part of the country are you in, how long you've been doing projection mapping, link to your youtube channel, pic of your house, have fun with it. This is a visual medium, we all love seeing examples of your work.

Hi folks, I am located about 2 hours north of Toronto, Canada in the little town of Penetanguishene (yes, I have to spell that a lot). I have run a pixel based show for a number of years, but the snow and temperatures are quite problematic. The snow load is hard on the props, and as winter progresses through December I have to keep lifting the props out of the snow. 4-5ft of snow by shutdown time is not unusual. So, I know I will have issues with projection for the same reason, but thought I would give it a shot. The take down will be much easier. Recently bought a 4000 Lumen projector to test with and see if I can reach enough house front and determine if it will work! If it does I will forge ahead with scene creation. I will likely mix between pixel/projection as I have a full setup including FPP and matrixes already, but if it works out, might switch to projection as the take down is easy. Currently crash coursing through After Effects to be able to put together a test. Luma Box's output will likely be enough for proof of concept...
Creation Workflow preferences.
OK, so this is like asking someone their favourite toothpaste, or the best drill, or preferred mixed. But. After bouncing around groups, FB, Reddit, YouTube etc, I am pretty much landing on After Effects and LumaMap to create my scenes. I was tempted with MadMapper, but not sure that it will be worth the cost if I can use the other two. (change my mind). I do have multiple paid AI solutions, and I do realize I can bypass LumaMap but thought it would save a fair bit of re-generating and LumaMap (my assumption) is designed to correctly do this. I saw some posts that it is better to create a 3d model to use in AE so you can do some effects along the model, which interests me. So I'd probably do a photogrammetry if my testing period is successful! At the end of the day, I'm looking to replicate some of what I have today with my XLights sequences, and will have my scenes synced to music. Feel free to express your opinion, tell me why I'm wrong, or why you prefer what you use. I haven't bought any of them yet.
It's all about the content...
Software and content drive so much of this. So many tools and options on how to make a show. Got questions, just ask. Tried something cool, share with the group.

Hopefully I'm allowed to push other links, as a beginner I have to say that Luma Box tutorials were fantastic. I'm not a video editor, but I am very computer savvy, so I could follow along easily, and she did a great job of showing how to achieve certain effects. Of the multitude I have perused, that was the most helpful.
Turn it up - Sound options
Not sure about everyone else, but I feel like we've done it all when it comes to audio. Wired speakers, Sonos, amplified, not amplified, add in an FM transmitter. Lots of ways to solve for audio. Most of us like it pretty loud though, post your questions, share your experience, what can you recommend?

Admittedly I currently run a pixel show, but last year I used an app called Pulsemesh (pulse mesh.io) push sound out in addition to my FM transmitter and speakers (marine speakers on Mega Tree). Since I live in the suburbs, I'm surrounded by houses, so I'm respectful of neighbours. Pulsemesh does a great job of keeping the music in sync with the lights. It is run as a FPP plugin, and works well. It is subscription, but not that expensive imo.
Projectors and Players
Everyone gets a little dicey about dropping a lot of money on a new projector. Will it be bright enough? Will it cover what I need on my house? Does it auto play if I put a timer on it? So many questions... Media players same issue, so many options and features. Be sure what you are trying to do will be solved. Our community is super helpful in this area and they've been through it all. Ask your question, don't be shy. Much better to ask a question before picking up that $3000 Epson that only works in an office environment....just sayin'

Since many are new here, I may as well drop in a post! Less of a 'what is good' but 'criticize what I got!' - since it was prime day I needed to pull the trigger on something, and after doing some quick research on ratings etc, I landed on this. ViewSonic PX749-4K UHD 4K The page I was looking at said to get the 3500 lumens one, but 4000 lumens was a similar price. The plan is to try it when I get home, and if it doesn't work, I have time to return/exchange it. I am located in Canada, so some of the options are limited. As a side note, I live in the snow belt, which is one reason why I am looking to switch to projection. While my lower half should be fine, I am not quite sure how the upper half will fare! Even with pixels, half my 5' trees are buried in snow, and it drifts a bit. I realize it will project onto the the snow mounds, but will manage it to see if it's any good. More curious if there are more heavy snow area users, or people skip it for that reason! Cheers.
