Just Saying...
Hey everyone... I have been absent for a long time (idk how long yet because I haven't looked) but I wanted to take a minute to talk about why, and what's happened since the last time I posted here. 2022 - Signed a distribution deal w/ Bentley Records, LLC (legit) 2023 - I went to ROLLING LOUD LA and met DJ Cipha Sounds, Big Boy from Real92.3LA, and Mike Nitro (A&R at Interscope Records)... - also met cool people and made attempts to network and share social media... Making content the entire time... and I did everything I went to do on DAY 1... The last two days were spent casually looking for other opportunities in the downtown area (Sunset Blvd, Walk of Fame, etc).... - Unfortunately even though I met a lot of supporters and potential business partners when I returned home there was nothing to - I ended up connecting with a scammer unintentionally (always ask how they found you and ask them for details about you that stand out to them... if they say something weird or off base they're a scammer)... Even though I did give him money (a lot of it) I knew what was happening and wanted to find a way to strike back, which is what i did when he foolishly connected his phone to my Gmail account after pretending that "the label" was taking over control of my social media (they do that for signed acts some times ... EDIT: After some time scrolling IG I think this may be a load of BS because it looks like an attempt to make themselves seem "larger the life") - What did I learn? Find out the lawyers name IMMEDIATELY because no one is signing a deal without one ... NOBODY; I already understood that NO ONE is giving you $1 million if they've never met you in person; labels may send a copy of the contract first (I got him to send me a copy but I don't know if he did that to make me believe it was real); some labels may have you meet and talk with your "manager/a&r" who will handle the direction you are taking your career by helping find opportunities for you before signing; MOST IMPORTANTLY you should also read "All You Need To Know About The Music Industry" by DONALD PASSMAN because that book will HELP YOU more than it hurts to spend time READING IT; ***also do not spend money on ANYTHING AT ALL ... If they want to sign you they're doing it because they want to make money off you so make them work for it*** (edit: I realized this suggestion of NOT spending money is dumb... I was low key on my soap box and legit made an error in judgment... My bad... I was ignoring the fact that being signed to ANY label will require you to REINVEST in your own career for the purposes of marketing/promo among other things... This isn't a way to get out of working... It's actually an even harder than having a regular job because there's nothing guaranteed AND it's possible to lose everything)

Preventing Unsolicited Messages From Scammers In Skool
Hey NLN Community! We’ve been made aware of a few scammers finding their way into our space and reaching out to some of you recently. In light of this, we’ve stepped up our security and scrutiny measures when it comes to the screening process for prospective members to try and spot these individuals and prevent them from joining. We’ve also dealt with these few individuals that have been reported by you guys and they have been banned from the group. Please continue to let us know if you receive any unsolicited messages from other people who don't seem genuine and continue to report any suspicious posts or comments. To avoid this happening again to anyone in the future we advise that you turn off your chat availability in your profile settings. Full instructions on how you can do that can be found in the video at the bottom of this post as well as the “START HERE” course. Rest assured, disabling this feature won’t prevent you from messaging me, Sean, or any other members of our team as we are all group admins but it will stop people on Skool from reaching out to you with unsolicited DMs. To clarify, you will also still be able to reach out to people in the community privately via DMs if you're currently having conversations or if they have decided to keep their messaging availability open. Any questions about this or any experiences/issues you’d like to share please get in touch. ~ Josh

I know I haven't been around for a long while but I'm glad I saw this...
Is troll marketing good in the long run?
So we’ve been seeing the young boy and Durk situation play out this past week. Young boy tried to step on durks release and it seems like the other camp was prepared for this, and it was just a single drop last Friday. Yesterday I recall, hearing something about young boy dropping another album on the same day is almost healed, I think it might even be a parity titled album. The last time I remember trolling like this was when Young Thug did Barter six if these reports are indeed true. We’ve seen what happens to artists like da baby and 69 for doing a whole bunch of trolling, and eventually becomes played out, and nobody cares. His audience is a lot more active and supportive of what he does based on the numbers, but do you guys think young boys trolling style Marketing is going to end up shooting him in the foot or will he be good in the long run?

what about up and coming artists that have music you may personally rate a 6 of 10 or better (at the very least a good song that showcases talent for Rap or RNB... maybe has potential to be a radio hit - think FNF by Glorilla)? what if they experience lots of trolling from their potential fanbase? do you think there is a culture of trolling that affects these artists potential to succeed? do you think this may influence them to try doing the same thing?

@Sharoyce Antwan how would you define "clout" ... example: i went to Rolling Loud LA this year and made content while i was out there and already have a song related to my trip there... does being at Rolling Loud LA give me clout? ***frfr asking you to define what clout is to you***
Does your IG/Twitter bio really matter?
what is it that makes random people decide to follow your page? is it the bio? does that even really matter to anyone? because it seems like lots of people spend a lot of time trying to stand out from the crowd by making their bio seems unique... but I guess the real question is: Is having a eye catching bio a valid marketing tactic for an up and coming artist?

Just to get this started... I honestly think for the younger generation its only used to get attention in a trolling type of way... but for other people its like more about showing you know who you are... but for me and the style of music I make being able to appeal to both demographics is necessary... so I'm kind of stuck in the middle

I would consider making the release an event to celebrate even if it's only something you recorded on your phone... I try to send good energy through the phone... not like being a discount store salesman type (example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvaRGiMWRaE ) but I think showing you're doing something interesting and it's true to your artistic direction would go a long way... of course take that with a grain of salt... it's not really working for me... my website has an example of that type of video https://graffitidavinci.com/ (it's the only one on there) unfortunately I'm not getting any traffic and I'm not sure why... Maybe I'm doing something wrong and don't know it yet...
