Have you ever????
Have you ever gone through your collected music and discovered or rediscovered gems that you might have overlooked or forgotten about? I've been preparing records for a four hour set I'm playing in Shoreditch next week and got totally derailed discovering some fantastic house, soul and jazz music lol. This was one of the records I discovered. From the legend that is Omar! https://www.discogs.com/release/956002-Omar-Your-Loss-My-Gain Am I the only one this has happened to?? I'd love to hear your stories on what beautiful music has been unearthed and rediscovered from your music collection.
An old song can become a new conversation
I don't know if you've noticed but music can have the ability to grow with us. For example, a song you may have belted out without a second thought at 16 might just move you in a different way at 40. Or a track that you once noticed the vibe and melody only, now reveal more layers that you misses before! Sometimes it's about what's happening in our lives when this song comes up again. If you're a dj or selector, you might suddenly hear the arrangement or production choices. Our ears change, our hearts change and suddenly an old familiar song becomes a completely new conversation. What's a song that means something completely different to you now than when you first heard it? 🤔

Ha! A song like that for me is Barry Manilow's Copacabana! As a youngster, this was just a pop song playing on the radio in the background. It wasn't a cool song for me then. But as an adult getting heavily involved in music, I received this record and was idly listening to the long version reliving my youth lol and realised how complete it was and the fact that it was a big budget production. Orchestra strings, crazy percussions, Manilow himself on top form and the backing vocalists fantastic. It's now one of my favourite disco tunes and I play it whenever I can!
