Headstock tuners
I see headstock tuners getting a lot of hate. Unless my amp has a built in tuner, headstock tuners are all I have used in the last 15 years. What should I be using? What’s wrong with headstock tuners?

Super Snark works great for me.
Dream writing
Ok, I feel crazy asking this, but this one is for my fellow songwriters. I’ve written about 40-50 songs. Some good, some not - as expected. However, the ones I feel are the best are the ones I’ve written in my sleep. I wake up with the entire song in my brain, ready for me to record. I just simply have to learn to play the parts. This accounts for about 6-7 of my songs. Has this happened to anyone else, or do I need more therapy? 😂 Please tell me I’m not alone.

Christine McVie said the song “Songbird” came to her, fully formed, in the middle of the night. She got up, composed it in 30 minutes, and kept playing it so she wouldn’t forget. Then she recorded it in a single take. She said it was a gift from angels. Consider yourself blessed.
Thinking too much
I’ve tried to learn finger picking for several years. As long as I’m not really thinking about my fingers and trying to stay in rhythm/time, I can do ok. But the second I lapse and focus my thoughts on my fingers, it all goes south. Usually only a minute or two. How can I keep my fingers going in rhythm for an extended period of time??? I thought it would come with time and practice, but I’m not so sure anymore.

What I’m finding that helps me is only working the right hand until it becomes natural. Don’t even touch a string with your left hand at first. And, as others have mentioned, start slowly and gradually build up speed.

Posted this before but…
I posted about getting a practice routine together a couple weeks ago. Well, I think I am going to ditch the lessons (let me know what you think), and try to compile a weekly practice session for myself. Lessons have been good, but all I have seemed to learn is songs (that’s awesome BTW )!!! I know a lot about theory and how things work in my head but need to put it into a physical sense (playing). Again, what, or how, would you do this? I need structure, that’s why I did lessons. That, and just wanting to play again, as well as have a hobby and get out! The lessons are just costing too much. Any help appreciated. Sorry if this is a double post. Just am passionate about guitar and am 51 and just want to get better!

I’ve tried to do it myself for two years but am starting lessons this week. I didn’t feel like I was progressing and need to make sure I have the fundamentals down.
