Last night’s class was phenomenal and gave me a deeper understanding of how to study and interpret Scripture correctly. Apostle Jason taught us to examine Scripture through three levels: historical, contextual, and prophetic. We studied Isaiah 54:17, which says: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” We learned to recognize the different weapons the enemy can use against us and how important it is to understand Scripture within its proper context. What impacted me most was when we read the entire chapter together and were asked to identify what God was revealing personally through the Scripture. For me, it felt like a love letter from the FATHER. I sensed Him reminding me that He loves me, that He has not forgotten me, and that I should not allow my past to define who I am today. He reminded me not to worry because He will take care of me and protect me. I also recognized that the weapons being formed against me were condemnation and worry. This class taught me that when God gives us a Scripture for someone, we must first understand what was happening historically and then examine the context of the passage. Only then can we responsibly understand its prophetic application. Correctly interpreting Scripture is important because we don’t want to mislead someone or cause them to go down the wrong path. The prophetic level allows us to recognize how God may be speaking through the Scripture and applying His Word to a person’s present situation. For me, last night’s lesson was not only about learning Scripture—it was about learning how to hear God’s heart through His Word while remaining faithful to what the Scripture actually says.
