What do you think?
So in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to start creating my first mini course. I've decided to do a mini course, rather than one HUGE course, as I think everyone struggles with different things, so if I can create mini courses that focus on just ONE particular problem, students will have more choice of which problem they want to focus on, without getting overwhelmed with a load of unnecessary information. These courses can then be laser-focused and super specific. I've come up with a bunch of ideas and wanted to get your thoughts on which sound the most interesting or the most useful. I'd like to eventually run these mini-courses as short workshops, so maybe once I've created the course, you guys can dive into them, and then we can do a short 4-week live bootcamp on the topic. I think you can vote for more than 1, and if you have any thoughts on this or additional ideas, let me know in the comments 👍 NB: Here are some other options that didn't fit in the poll: 11. Play awesome blues guitar by yourself (without a band) 12. Build your own blues loop to practice over 13. How to learn blues licks, use them, (and never forget them!) 14. How to develop your blues vocabulary (without learning 100 different licks!) 15. Spice up your minor blues solos at your next jam 16. Must know theory for blues guitarists that you can use (and that’s actually fun to learn) 17. How to improve your blues phrasing (without more scales, notes, or theory!)

@Angus Dobbie @Ben Johnsen I’m 100% on board with this. If I could sit down with an electric or acoustic and just play some cool blues or jam by myself teven with some simple finger style that would be a great accomplishment. I’m not going to be in a band so most of my time is just hanging at home playing. Great thought Angus.

@Angus Dobbie Doing great. Thanks. Semi-retiring so I’m on a 3 three week journey to sunny Florida. Playing golf and seeing music. Saw Billy Strings this past weekend for 3 nights. The band Goose this weekend. Billy is just an awesome picker as you know Met him on the street the following day with my daughter. Second time meeting him
Gear talk
Hi all, here’s an idea for a topic for discussion: the gear that we use, whether that’s for gigs, recording, or home practice.

I have the Spark 2 and a Fender Blues Jr. I love the Blues Jr but have the Spark because of the technology and the Blues Jr doesnt have a Line Out. My pedal board is a shit show that makes too much noise when I’m trying to record anything. My gig set up-well I dont have one. Why would I? dont need one in when you only play in the basement of my house
Hangout Times
Hey everyone, hope you’ve had a great weekend. So I wanted to suggest some times for our weekly hangouts that maybe the majority could attend. Even if not every week. Here are some suggestions that I can make: Tuesday 4pm UK / 11am ET / 8am PT Wednesday 6pm UK / 1pm ET / 10am PT Thursday 7pm UK / 2pm ET / 11am PT Let me know in the comments which of those work for you. I do have afternoons available too but not such friendly time zones for our US and Canadian members!

Woman Across The River. What's Your Favourite Version?
So I was listening to some Freddie King this morning on the way to work and one of my favourite songs came on - Woman Across The River. I've always been drawn to Freddie's funky style and I definitely recommend checking him out if you're not familiar. But then I got curious about some cover versions. Matt Schofield's version was one of the first I heard of this song and his playing is awesome. I was fortunate enough to attend a masterclass he held at my University when I was a kid, and getting to see him play live that same evening was incredible. This took me on a bit of a rabbit hole, and I've discovered the Allman Brothers Band have a version of the same song too, with Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks on guitar. The song is also clever in how it transitions from a straight funky blues to a slower shuffle. Clever how it transitions too. I've posted the versions below for those who care to listen. Do you have a preference? Sometimes I hear from students about how they prefer more modern covers of older songs because of the recording quality. Does that resonate with you? Feel free to post your favourite cover version of a classic blues song in the comments 👇

Okay Ben. Now you’re talking my language. The Grateful Dead were the ultimate Blues Copy band in the 1960’s. It’s what started a Hippie Revolution Here’s an original Blues tune called Viola Lee Blues by Gus Cannon in 1926 100 years ago https://youtu.be/oSAm7LnD6z8?si=rFWftMXd6B1Wgm0F In the late 1960’s Jerry Garcia and the grateful dead performed their own version of this song 60 years ago and John Mayer and Dead and Company still play it today https://youtu.be/ROHpBgcmHBA?si=76p3KkCCWG-Hy_YG
