Favorite songs with unique techniquess
Sorry for the sloppy title, I couldn't think of a more succinct way to phrase it. But I've been in the mindset lately to expand the way I think about the guitar and take full advantage of it's uniquely sonic versatility. What are your favorite songs that utilize techniques that aren't just picking and fretting techniques per se. What comes to my mind immediately are the following; The opening violin swells from QOTSAs Regular John. The solos from There There and Go to Sleep by Radiohead. Coliseum by Van Halen. I'm sure if I gave myself more time I could have a better list, but I just wanted to get this thought out there and see what else is out there.

Stop This Train by John Mayer comes to mind. Great question!

The right hand part is tricky! Plays the melody with the nail side of the fingers.

LONG POST WARNING - For the quick version, watch the video at the end 👇 Over the last few weeks, our group has been climbing the music charts here on Skool! And that's because you're active and engage here in the group. The higher we go, the more people find us — which means more awesome members and chances to connect and learn together. I just want to thank you for being here and engaging. It means a lot! But to be clear, i don't think our goal is to build the biggest guitar community out there. It’s to build one based on three strong values: Magic. Connection. Structure. ✨ Magic When I was 12, I played my first show in a run-down school cafeteria. There were only four people there. I was nervous, my hands were sweaty, and I barely knew what I was doing. But the moment I started playing, something clicked — and I knew I’d play guitar for the rest of my life. If we can create similar magical moments here in this group, that’s something truly worth aiming for. 🤝 Connection A week or two ago, I was at a cabin with one of my best friends, Mikael. We started our first band together years ago and still play to this day. At the cabin, I showed him a riff I’d been stuck on. He just said, “How about a B chord?” And suddenly, it sounded amazing. Sometimes all it takes is connecting with the right person to unlock something new. Let’s make this group a place where those kinds of connections happen all the time. 🧭 Structure A lot of guitarists want to learn but don’t have a clear structure. Even many teachers struggle to give that.This group is, first and foremost, like a cocktail party for guitar players — magic and connection come first. But if you ever want to take things to the next level and learn with more structure, you know where to find me. By the way, the structure for learning should be so easy to follow it's fun. Besides these values, i think it will be exciting to grow this community together. To do that, all we have to do is be active. Like, comment and don't be afraid to start conversations. What you do matters to me and all the other members :) Let's rock!

Nice. Reminds me to the lick from Layla (Eric Clapton)

7th chord question
What are the chord CAGED shapes of 7th chords and all the types of 7th chords such as diminished seventh, half diminished 7th, major 7th, minor 7th, and perhaps augmented 7th

Hi Rylan... this is a great question! I've found that to make the most of CAGED shapes that go beyond regular major and minor --> 7ths chords you have to start combining them. - C Shape + A Shape - G Shape + E Shape And then if you know your chord formulas you're well on your way! - D Maj7 = R, 3, 5, 7 - D7 = R, 3, 5, b7 - Dm7 = R, b3, 5, b7 - Dm7b5 = R, b3, 5, b7 - Ddim7 = R, b3, 5, bb7 (same as 6) - D7+ = R, 3, #5, b7 I made a video explaining how it all works. Sorry it's a bit long!

@Christian Lie thanks 🙏 I hope it’s helpful. I’d say the A shape and the E shape are the 2 that naturally lend themselves to playing 7 chords. C shape is probably the less useful (at first - it becomes more import for 9th chords). But like I said in the video, I highly recommend trying to combine shapes adjacent shapes eventually (like C + A shapes for example). I included a PDF of what I believe are the most useful 7th chord shapes I recommend learning first.
