Which Would You Pick?
If Only Family Life Came With a Remote Control… You’ve just discovered a magical remote that works on family life. Unfortunately, the batteries are almost dead, and you only get ONE button. Which do you choose? A. PAUSE: Freeze time during one of those perfect little moments you wish could last forever. B. REWIND: Relive a ridiculously funny family moment, complete with the laughter. C. MUTE: Silence the chaos for 10 glorious minutes. No questions, no arguments, no one calling your name. D. SHUFFLE: Turn an ordinary afternoon into a completely unexpected adventure. Nobody knows what’s coming! I’m torn between B and D. Although, depending on the day, C sounds pretty tempting. Which button are you pressing, and why? Bonus question: Which button would the kids in your life choose?

@Mary Nunaley From this past weekend it was snuggling in my bed (I just moved into a new place) with my grandkids and talking and giggling together. My grandson has discovered he loves rocks and asked if I would show him my collection. Gigting them each some rocks to take home. I imagine when they look at the rocks it will remind them of our time together this weekend.

@Mary Nunaley He loves geodes. I got him one for Christmas (He asked for one he could crack open himself). They went to an amethyst mine and harvested some. One of the rocks I showed them as the one they picked out and gave me for Christmas.

What Do You Think?
Trying my hand at some food safety items for the 3-8 year old set. What would you keep? What would you change?

@Mary Nunaley We also took deep breathes before starting. It was hard to work with him if had a knife in his hand and began to get dysregulated. There was a lot of preaching and most of it had visuals to support the learning between times in the kitchen.

@Mary Nunaley We couldn't have done it without them. I still use visuals when needed and he is a young adult.
How Do You?
Introduce change to your kids? One thing I don’t think we talk about enough as a society is how to introduce change. Some kids seem to adapt well while others struggle. Depending on age, change will also mean different things to the child. I’m in one of those deep thought modes as I ponder an unplanned trip to Grand Rapids, MI next week on behalf of a client. Do you flex with change or dig in? Do you see your kids adopt your behavior or are they opposite? What types of games or activities could help in teaching how to navigate change?

With my son, I found that tell him the story with visuals that he could refer to over and over after we talk really made all the difference. He could have as many repetitions as he needed that way. We could review them over again for a few days before the change and add to it if needed. I found that this helped prepare him. He was a visual learner.
