@Samantha Marcinko That's a really nice plot
Welcome to Kids Book Academy šŸ¤
If you’re here, chances are you’ve been carrying a children’s book inside you, and you’re not quite sure what the next step is. This is a calm, supportive space for writers at any stage of the process…from idea to draft to published but stuck. There’s no pressure here. No rushing. No ā€œdo it this way or else.ā€ We focus on clarity, honesty, and small steps that actually move the work forward If you’d like to start, a simple place is this: šŸ‘‰ Introduce yourself and share what stage your book is in — even if that feels messy or unfinished. You’re welcome exactly as you are.

@Lebohang Mojaki Welcome
A quick reset question for writers tonight…
Quick check in before the day ends. If you stripped away publishing, money, and validation for a second and wrote purely for impact, who would you be writing for right now? A child who feels unseen A parent who feels overwhelmed A kid who needs confidence Or maybe your own younger self… Comment with just one sentence: ā€œI would write for ______ because ______.ā€ No overthinking. Trust your gut. I’ll reply to all of these personally.

Children, I would write for my younger self because she deserved to feel seen.
Most people never finish their children’s book for this one simple reason…
They wait until they feel ready. Ready to write Ready to be confident Ready to know it is good That moment almost never comes. Every successful children’s book author I know started before they felt ready. Including me. Clarity comes from writing, not from thinking about writing. Confidence comes from finishing, not from planning. Skill comes from drafts, not from waiting. So here is today’s simple action: Write one page of your children’s book today. Not the whole story. Not the perfect version. Just one page. If you already have a draft, rewrite one page and make it clearer for a child. Drop a comment with: ā€œI wrote my pageā€ or ā€œI rewrote my pageā€ No judgment. No feedback unless you ask for it. Just momentum. Progress beats perfection every single time.

@Jessical Scachetti Spot on!
Paying an illustrator?
I’m meeting with a potential illustrator on a Friday. Has anyone that has self published worked with a separate illustrator? What terms did you agree on? Pay one fee? Share profits?

That’s exciting, Suzanne, best of luck with the meeting 😊 I’ve self-published and worked with a separate illustrator. In my case, we agreed on a one-time flat fee with clear terms around usage and rights, which kept things simple and avoided confusion later on. I’ve also seen a friend use the profit-share models work, but only when everything is very clearly outlined from the start. Curious to hear which direction you’re leaning toward.

šŸ“š Big on books, learning, and self-growth I read, break things down, and share what actually works.
