Are we sometimes trying to automate things too early?
Something I’ve been thinking about while working in hotel kitchen and exploring AI automation opportunities. I’m currently looking at everyday hotel processes like breakfast operations, kitchen workflows, reviews, purchasing, and inventory-related tasks. And one thing I’m learning is that before even thinking about automation, I need to properly understand how the process works, where time is being lost, and whether there’s actually a problem worth solving.Thats why I’ve decided to do a discovery phase first before anything. To me discovery calls sounds boring and stops me from a building and having fun with AI, Agents, testing different platforms and so on. But sometimes a simple tracking system or a better process might be more useful than another AI agent. That’s what I’ve applied also in a current hotel kitchen job I have. I started with measuring, Google Sheets for tracking and over all mapping the reality of kitchen operations. I’m still figuring this out and testing different approaches. For those of you building AI automation agencies: Do you usually start by understanding the client’s existing workflow, or do you already have a specific automation you try to sell? Curious how others approach this.

@Mouldi Nouri thank you for your advice.
For everyone building voice AI agents or AI receptionists.
Hey everyone! I'm curious to connect with people who are currently building AI voice agents, especially for hotels and hospitality. A little about me: I currently work in the restaurant and kitchen of a 4-star hotel in Austria, and I've been exploring how AI and automation could improve real day-to-day hotel operations. Our hotel owner has actually shown interest in AI voice agents before, so there might be an opportunity to explore implementing one in our hotel at some point. I'd love to hear from people who are already building or deploying these solutions. Have you managed to get real clients? What's working well, what isn't, and what have been your biggest challenges so far? I'm also currently having informal discovery conversations with people working in hospitality, AI automation, and voice agents. Mainly to learn, exchange experiences, and better understand what's actually happening in the industry. No sales pitches, no scripts, no hidden agenda. Just genuine conversations with people who are building things and learning along the way. If you're working on something similar, I'd be happy to connect and have a casual chat!
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m Filip, originally from Slovakia 🇸🇰 and currently working hands-on in hotel operations in Austria. I’m building my own project , focused on exploring opportunities in hospitality, mainly independent 3-4 stars hotels, but also restaurants, cafés, bars, and the wider industry. Where I’m currently at: I’m in the early discovery phase, reaching out to people, having conversations and discovery calls, and trying to understand the real challenges hospitality businesses face. I’m particularly interested in what’s happening behind the scenes: everyday operational challenges, inefficient processes, what’s working well, and where better systems, technology, or AI automation could genuinely make a difference. I’m also exploring areas like guest experience, online reputation, and reviews. My approach is pretty simple: Understand the industry, listen to people with real experience, identify recurring problems, and only then figure out whether there’s something worth solving or building. Why I’m here: I’d love to learn from this community, share my own experiences and findings, contribute wherever I can, and connect with people who have similar interests. I’m especially interested in connecting with: - Hospitality professionals: Anyone working in hotels, restaurants, cafés, or bars or whether you’re an owner, manager, or part of the day-to-day team. - Builders and service providers: People developing systems, AI solutions, automations, or other services for hospitality businesses. - People from Slovakia 🇸🇰 or Czechia 🇨🇿: I’d particularly love to connect with people familiar with these markets, exchange experiences, and understand the challenges, opportunities, and what’s actually happening locally. I’m not here to pitch anything. I’m genuinely interested in learning, exchanging perspectives, building relationships, and hopefully contributing something useful along the way. If any of this resonates with you, feel free to drop a comment or send me a DM! Would love to hear what you’re working on, what challenges you’re seeing, or simply connect and exchange ideas.

@Jaskaran Saini Thank you. So far I had only two discovery calls. But from my own experiences plus those two calls combined together its so far things like food waste, reviews, breakfast and not clear operations and management in kitchen workflows

@Aurel Babiš I actually don't ask them about AI or automation, because I know a lot depends on the specific person I'm talking to. However, I realize there are certain prevailing sentiments around these topics, and I want to avoid that. I don't want our conversation to revolve around AI or things like that. That said, you’ve made a great point. I really like the idea of having someone describe, for instance, yesterday's shift and similar details. that is truly valuable. I know many things exist only on paper or in people's heads, but this is very important so thank you very much. At the same time, I’d be interested to know what you’re currently working on ?
