What puts people off a VSL?
Nice thread in Skoolers here from @Marcin Hakemer-Fernandez , asking folk what makes them stop watching an About Page video. Read the comments and avoid those pitfalls! One thing that doesn't get talked about enough (the same being true for YouTube videos) is the VSL length. Go over about 8 minutes and you may lose a portion of people before they even hit Play.

@Lisa Vanderveen I would love to hear @Jason Arnopp ‘s thoughts on this!!
"Huh? But Skool Games winners don't do it like that..."
Hey Clinician! Let’s talk About Pages — specifically, the ones from Skool Games winners. Because if you’ve been checking out their groups (and who hasn’t?), you might be wondering: “Why does Jason keep banging on about clear offers, pain points and future selves... when these top earners aren’t doing any of that?” Totally fair question. You’ll often see me here recommending things like pain points, dream outcomes and strong psychological hooks — instead of a dry list of group features. But that can seem at odds with the approach many Games winners have taken. So here’s what I want you to know: 🏆 Skool Games winners are, by definition, crushing it. 💎 I work with some of the highest earners on the platform to rebuild their About Pages and manage their conversion growth — so I say this with total respect... Some of them are winning in SPITE of their About Pages, not BECAUSE of them 😅 Ever since the Games kicked off in Feb 2024, a kind of received wisdom has been passed down — and it's led to some common issues, like: 👀 No pain points or psychological hooks 👀 Heavy focus on “what’s inside” instead of the dream outcome 👀 Tiny, hard-to-read text (even on desktop!) pulled from overused templates 👀 Very little work done to harness the power of testimonials These creators are still converting because they’ve often spent weeks or months warming up their audience through content — posts, podcasts, YouTube, you name it. So when someone lands on their About Page, they’re already sold. But your visitors may be in a different place. They might be colder — Skool users browsing around, looking for something that hits home fast. That’s why I always advise my high-ticket clients to optimize for cold traffic — because even Games winners often miss conversions right under their noses from people already inside Skool. Hope that makes sense? This isn’t a swipe at Games winners — far from it. Just something to bear in mind if you’re tempted to “just copy” someone else’s About Page copy or VSL script.

This!! OMG 😱
⚡️Classroom flash sale!
Am having a great Bank Holiday weekend with my young twins, watching them be Minecraft geniuses.⚒️⚒️ Incredibly, the sun is also shining here in England! 🌞🌞🌞 So in a sudden fit of joy-inspired madness, I've slashed the prices of several Classroom items for a very limited time! Check out these rashly hacked prices: About Page text template $9 ➡️ $3 VSL script template $19 ➡️ $9 Pain Points course $29 ➡️ $14 🤯 I've even fully embraced May madness by carving a fat chunk out of the price of my bookable 1:1 calls, during which I help creators get super-clear on their group ideas, offers and conversion tactics! $499/hour ➡️ $349/hour 🤯🤯🤯 (Note: VIP members get these calls even cheaper all year round, at just $249/hour) How long will this sale last? Oh, probably until I think better of my decision! But for the next hour or two, at least. Get in there and load up! 👊 Furthermore, have an awesome weekend. 😊👊 What are you doing over these days?

@Jason Arnopp it’s about time to change mine too. I like to keep it fresh.
🚫 Don't welcome visitors to your Page
All too many About Pages start their text or VSL with WELCOME TO [NAME OF GROUP]! I'd advise against you doing this. Why? Three reasons: 1) The visitor hasn't joined yet and so you risk coming across as a tad presumptuous. Save the welcome for when they join. :D 2) You don't need to repeat the name of the group. If you're on desktop, the group name is literally shown in three different places. 3) Particularly if a visitor is coming to your Page cold, they may be only partly or mildly interested. They may be halfway through making dinner. They may have children making demands of them. They may have TikTok notifications vying for their attention. Simply put, they may bounce at any given second. Every single written (or spoken, in a VSL) word you waste with a welcome is one you could be using to hook them in with an offer, a pain point or some fiendish combo of the two. Don't waste a single syllable. Go straight for the throat. Or rather, the most important part of their body, the brain. Does your current About Page text and/or VSL waste time with its opener, instead of grabbing your visitor's attention and telling them why they should join? 👉 Let me know below if this post has inspired you to bin the preliminary platitudes. :) P.S. It may feel important to you to cultivate a warm atmosphere from the off and that's fine. Just do it fast. The text I wrote for Forex For Women VIP, for instance, starts with "Hi friend!" P.P.S. A reminder: check out the new pinned post for how you can get a free steer from me on the #1 thing to work on to boost conversions!

I never start with welcome and I thank you for it!

@Jason Arnopp I’m also getting much better with opening hooks that are not a question. Statements & accusations are so much more fun. 😆
📷 New image pinch-zoom + what it means for your Page
As announced on Skool News just now, mobile app users can now pinch to zoom in on an image. This includes those on your About Page. This may at first seem like a free pass for creators who load their images with too-small, illegible text. 😆 But no! Not quite, anyway. Because a pinch-zoom is still another action required of the visitor. Another layer of friction. So I'll continue to recommend that my 1:1 clients' About Page images remain optimized for mobile. But this change is good news overall, right?
