Looking fo a descent summing mixer
Hey, guys. Is it just me or are there really not a lot of options for analog emulation summing mixers available? I've been using TbPro Audio's free one, which is descent but if there's an analog emulation out there, it'll be better for sure. The only two I know of are Universal Audio's Neve summer and Slate Digital's and UA's is exclusive to Apllo and their new DAW, Luna, so Pro Tools, Ableton, etc. won't support it. It feels like they did their homework, saw there aren't very many options for summers and used the lack to coherce people to use their DAW. I mean, it's free (for now), but who's going to dwitch their entire workflow just for the sake of a single plugin? Waves has one, but there's no mention of an emulation of any SPECIFIC hardware. So for people who want analog emulations and don't use UA Apollo, it looks like the only option is Slate Digital. Does anyone else know of one?

String library session section - what’s best?
I am going to buy a new string library and would appreciate your experience and knowledge to help me make a proper choice. I am NOT looking for a massive cinematic orchestra. More a 14-piece section for performance of string arrangements as we hear them in productions from Nashville or as they were done with Sinatra back in the days and today on albums as the wonderful new country album with Paul Carack. Hoping you are willing to share some ideas!

@Mikael Wendt I would also keep into consideration different typologies of libraries before you decide what to get. Standalone plugin vs Kontakt, Ensemble vs solo instruments. I am not a pianist so I find solo instrument libraries easier to work with but the process is slower. If you need to sketch something quickly (and can use two hands on the keyboard), ensemble libraries will be better. Most libraries will work in the free Kontakt player, so standalone vs Kontakt I guess it's more down to personal preference. If you're already into the Kontakt ecosystem with other instruments, go with it. As others said, Spitfire is a top choice in terms of quality. Their Chamber Strings library is very very good, although not the cheapest (runs in Kontakt). Some of their Originals cheaper libraries are also nice, Intimate Strings above all.

Focal Alpha 50 in an untreated room. I feel like they give me enough transparency and detail for what I need and in the last few years I got to know them fairly well by listening to music I like while not mixing. They don't go too low but I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 to check low end. I also use Sonarworks to even out any obvious room flaws.
Mixing engineer question
Do you guys normally go for EQ boost or you prefer saturation (or band saturation) over Eq boost? what is a case you might wanna go for EQ boost instead of saturation ? I m not a mixing engineer I m a producer so I m asking to engineers here out of curiosity.

Both but for different reasons. Eq boosts to enhance what's good in a sound, saturation to increase perceived loudness...a little goes a long way. Spectre plugin one of my favourite for this purpose.
Logic Pro Overload on a “good” Mac
Hello everyone. Although I like this community, I usually don’t write due to my own shyness. 😅 I’m using Logic 10.4.5 on a mid-2012 Macbook pro, and Logic just constantly overloads. Making music is becoming hard to do when I can barely get through less than 2 seconds of audio. I have a good amount of empty storage space, as well, so it hopefully doesn’t have anything to do with that. Logic also has a frequent tendency to crash. Especially if I’ve downloaded a new plugin. I don’t have an excessively large plugin folder, but maybe it would help to get rid of some free plugins I’ve collected. I don’t use a lot of plugins in my mixes either. Even then, in my performance meter, all processing threads hit 100% fairly quickly. Also, in the performance meter, the processing thread bar furthest to the right is always bouncing around 50% even when nothing is playing back. Mac stats - Core i7 Intel - 16GB of RAM - 1TB SSD - OS Catalina - Mid-2012 I’ve been looking for answers for months. I’ve tried... - Freezing Tracks - Closing other applications - Leaving ReWire off - Increasing Processing threads to "8" - Setting Process buffer range to “Large" - Using Larger Buffer size for Mixing - Turning off WIFI - Turning Off Bluetooth - Bouncing MIDI to Audio before mixing I’m not sure what else to do. I’d appreciate any help. Thanks.

Is your issue while recording or while mixing? I found that other than maxing your i/o buffer size (while mixing), a couple of other things help. Don't know why but if you are mixing, set all of your tracks to No Input (more info here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Xfn3WGDk2p8). This solved an issue for me, having multiple instances of Guitar Rig leading to system overload. One other thing I did was getting an external GPU (I use an iMac and graphic cards on iMacs are not great). Do a bit of research beforehand as that may not work in your situation... One other suggestion, find a used/refurbished latest Intel MacBook pros, definitely cheaper than getting M1s or M2s. Hope this helps!
