Timeboxing & Pomodoro with ADHD: What works for you?
I have had very good experiences with focus blocks/timeboxing. Within these blocks, I work using the Pomodoro method: I pick a specific task, set a timer (25–50 minutes), and work exclusively on that task during this period—without distractions (DND on, tabs closed, phone away). My process is simple: quickly write down the goal/task, start the timer, work until the signal, then take a short break (5–10 minutes), and after a few rounds, take a longer break. For shielding myself from distractions, I use “Do Not Disturb” mode on my phone, white noise (rain sounds) on my headphones, and a visible timer that shows me the task and the remaining time (I even built my own HTML script for this). I’m curious: - Do you use focused work times? - Do you block set time slots in your calendar, or do you do it spontaneously? - Do you prefer to work in one long block or in several short sprints? - And which tools do you use as timers? - What small tricks help you keep distractions away?

My biggest struggle used to be “task hopping” – I’d start working on one thing, then suddenly remember something else (or check my emails “just for a second”), and before I knew it, I was 20 minutes deep into a totally unrelated task… It felt like my brain wanted to jump between tabs, windows, and projects nonstop. I’m using the past tense because after the diagnoses had an epiphany and I did a deep dive into focus strategies, deep work, Flow, Inbox Zero and all that good stuff. I even created my own 30-day challenge to really practice and internalize these habits. Now, I feel like I have things much more under control. It’s not perfect – but having a toolbox filled with best practices, daily systems, and a clear workflow makes a massive difference for me. Consistency really is a muscle! Thanks for creating this space for us to reflect and share!
