It’s got a nice little Steven Stills vibe on the Lead. Thanks for sharing. A very pleasing Listen!
mid/side processing
hi guys, does anyone have a plugin they wish had a mid-side feature, but doesn't? Or maybe it just costs more? I have the older, non-mid-side version of blackbox, and was annoyed at the idea of buying it again. I found a plugin that fixes this, sortof, called dime[m-s]. I mean, its the same sale price as the sale price of blackbox m-s ($31-ish), however, it will let you throw any plugin you've got on just the mid or just the sides. pretty cool, I think. this little test with a drumkit made me happy. any plugins you'd like to have mid side controls on that don't? Note.. only works for VST3, Audio Unit, and AAX. also, unlike what bluecat patchwork can do, this thing does not solve the waves plugin problem in izotope rx, but it works every other way i've tried it so far. It also has an interesting parameter passing setup (the second pic). It does make finding a particular set of parameters across a few plugins easy, if not in a slightly limiting fashion.

I’m probably the curmudgeon on this topic in that I believe mid-side is overused for correcting poor image control in the Production or Mixing phase. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Midside as much as the next guy, but it’s gotta be used sparingly; with taste. There are plenty of ways of altering Midside configuration with phase, with delay. And mixing in Logic Pro’s “dual mono” pretty much gives me Midside capability of any plug-in available. That said, it would be nice if Multipressor had Midside built in. I might actually use that one, then. 😎
If Santa offered to bring you a single piece of audio gear…
What would it be? Right now… for me it would be a toss up between a Massive Passive, Pultec… or The Swift from Thermionic Culture. I’ll let you know if I decide 🤷‍♂️

File Organization on Logic Pro Mac Zoom Session...
For those of you who might be interested, I'm hosting a Zoom session next Friday on the topic of File Organization in Logic Pro on Mac. If time permits, I can cover other Logic-based questions. I've set aside two hours for this. I believe I'm limited to 50, but, truthfully, don't expect near that many. We'll see, n'est pas? Clip Gain Question
Do any of you put EQ / Compressor / EQ on your instruments or vocals to watch levels in the compressor before adjusting or do you focus just on master level or volume comparison of ref track? The mastering Manual from here (the book) chain is similar to some vocal chains order , but daw tutorials sometimes do it a different way? Which way is your way? I’m looking at the manual from here as my guide but the daw tutorials sometimes throw me off track a bit. Trying to find my own way. Grey spot… Thanks!

For me, Clip Gain can be two parts: one on the region itself, and the other via a Gain Plugin. Generally, I do macro-level adjustments (clip gain) on the Region first, and get a general balance I'm happy with. Regions get split up, and I can really hone in on de-essing functions and such. It's tedious, but the results are often GOLDEN. Sometimes, I'll use Clip Gain on the Region to dial in 85-90% of the way there, and then dive in really tight (if needed) with a Gain plug-in and automation. All of this before I ever hit a Compressor or EQ during Mix stage. Think of it as a "volume only" mix. Panning is OK, but Zero Plugins other than that detailed Gain plug if needed on Lead Vocal or Lead instrument. My rough mixes usually are compatible with my reference (volume adjusted - that is, Reference peaking @ -10dB). There's plenty of Deep Dive opportunity/training for this method in TRE and Mixing Intensive. 😎
