I decided to start my own bookkeeping business to supplement my teaching income in the beginning, and then when I retire from teaching 6 years from now, at 67. I will have a viable business with income to keeping working in my golden years, and pass it off to my children.

@Kerrie Retzloff a least you have paying clients. The learning postion will nevever stop, so do not let that hold you back. You need to show potential clients the value you bring to them, by hiring you. Once they u understand the value it becomes easy. People don't want to part with money, unless they see value.

I have a pro bono client. I consistently talk to people face-to-face and ask them what they do to generate a conversation to see if they need or know someone who needs bookkeeping services.

@Melissa Broughton forever as the client is my Temple, which is very small in member families. Plus, I also do the bookkeeping for my wife’s startup law practice.

Finding the right people. I have networked my contacts, Facebook/phonebook/LinkedIn/Instagram. I have done marketing in social media business groups in my area and state. I have gone to networking groups, and reached out to CPAs as well as networking with sales people from ADP and Paychex. I have a website , logo, business plan, etc.
