I GOT A GRANT from the Houston Arts Alliance!
Y'all I'm so excited AND if you are in Houston please reach out to me. I applied back in September. I saw the deadline with just a few days to fill out the application but I applied for 2 different pots from the Houston Arts Alliance. I've heard back on one of my applications already for a smaller event with the focus on Colorism. Y'all I used to say I never win these things, BUT I didn't go in with that mentality THIS time. I went in thinking about the possibilities of what I could do if I didn't have to do everything out of my own pocket and I had fun dreaming up the event. I'm really excited and I KNOW bigger grants and sponsorships are coming. Let me encourage you - fill out the application. Dream the big dream and start actively taking steps towards its execution.

People are looking for us!
I'm developing a signature program for healing through art and poetry with a Christ centered lens. I got on a few market research calls and 2 of the ladies basically were like send me the link. One of them said they had been searching for what I described the night before but could not find it. This level of confirmation is unmatched - people are looking for what we have, we just have to be willing to share it with the world.
Social Media Audit Challenge: Are You Showing Up as an Artist?
📲 Poets, it’s time for a reality check. 👀 Today’s challenge is simple, but powerful: Audit your social media page — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn — wherever you show up. Scroll through your feed and look at it from the eyes of someone who has never met you. Now ask yourself: ➡️ Would they know you're an artist? ➡️ Would they be able to tell what kind of art you do? ➡️ Would they be inspired to follow, book, or refer you based on what they see? We talk a lot about building our poetry businesses, but your social media is your storefront — and the world is window shopping every day. 🔍 Your mission: 1. Do a full audit of your profile and posts. 2. Make a note of what needs to be removed, updated, or added. 3. Then drop a comment and tell us what changes you're committed to making this week. 4. Post your social media link(s) so we can review your updated pages and give you a critique. This is about visibility, alignment, and professionalism. Let’s show up like the artists we truly are.

I sent out emails to a few libraries in Houston. One emailed me back and said it was a great idea but outside of their budget. I emailed her back to try to see if we can negotiate some things. I’m hopeful I will eventually get one of these branches
Hello fellow artist ❤️
Hi, I’m Jen I’ve been writing for a very long time. I was first published in 2001. I recently started again, but this go around I’m actually sharing my work. This had an amazing response that now I’m working on finishing my first book. I joined here to learn and help promote my work, and any tips I can acquire along the way.
