🎬 Drop your best film of the week — winners get featured Friday
Starting July 17, every Friday I’ll post the Best AI Films This Week thread on X, plus a feature on the AIFD blog. Starting now, this community gets first shot at those slots. How it works: Post your best film from this week (or month, if it's your first time) in the comments by Thursday night. Format: 1. Link to the film 2. Tool(s) used 3. One sentence: what you're proudest of What winners get: - Featured in Friday's Best AI Films thread on X (tagged, with commentary on why your work stands out) - A spot in that week's AIFD blog post, linked to your directory profile - Real distribution — these threads reach buyers, studios, and other filmmakers No polish required. I'm looking for one great moment — a match cut, a lighting shift, a story beat that lands. Show me what you've got. 👇

I applied already. I was geeked when I saw it. Its a shame some big budget brand is probably gonna win.
The way clients find you is changing — fast
Quick one worth your attention. OpenAI just confirmed it's testing ads inside ChatGPT, and marketer Neil Patel is calling it the next big advertising era — the ChatGPT version of what Google Ads did in 2002. But the ads aren't the real headline for us. They're proof of something bigger that's already happening. People have stopped clicking. In early 2026, about 68% of Google searches ended without a single click — folks just read the AI answer and move on. On AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, that number climbs past 90%. ChatGPT is now handling roughly 17% of all searches worldwide. Think about what that means for getting hired. The old way — the Upwork way — was to be one fish in a giant pond, hoping a client scrolls far enough down the list to find you, then undercutting everyone on price. But AI doesn't scroll a list. When someone asks, "Who can make an AI video for my brand?", the assistant gives a recommendation — a name. There's no page two to climb. So the game isn't "how do I rank?" anymore. It's "does the AI know who I am, and can it confidently put my name forward?" That's the whole reason the AI Filmmakers Directory exists — a clean, structured profile designed so you get discovered and recommended when someone goes looking for a creator like you. Not buried in a feed. Put forward. Two things to do this week: 1. Create your AIFD profile if you haven't yet — get discoverable while discovery is still being decided. 2. Work through the free modules in Classrooms — they sharpen the exact skills clients are paying for right now. Being early still counts for something. Let's make sure the AI knows your name. 🎬

Oh yea I want in
One thing I've been learning during the production of Ghost-Writer is that AI isn't the story.
The story is still the story. Characters still need personalities. Scenes still need purpose. Dialogue still needs to move the plot forward. AI is simply another filmmaking tool. This scene features two of my main characters: • Rome Poreè – an R&B artist who unknowingly becomes connected to a cursed family notebook. • Mizz Lexi – his friend, confidant, and one of the few people who witnesses the strange events unfolding around him. I wanted this moment to feel natural and grounded before the horror elements begin creeping in. Along with the scene, I'm sharing the character sheets used to maintain consistency throughout production. Curious what other AI filmmakers think: What's the biggest challenge you've faced when trying to create believable character-driven scenes with AI? #GhostWriter #AIFilm #AIFilmmaking #GenerativeAI #Storytelling #IndieFilm #Filmmaker #AICinema #AIArtists #CreativeAI

@Alex Vachon Absolutely. Ghost-Writer started as a simple idea: What if a songwriter inherited a mysterious notebook that helped him write hit songs... but came with a dark legacy attached to it? From there I spent months building the characters, family history, and mythology before I ever started generating scenes. My approach was story first, AI second. I used AI to help bring the vision to life, but the writing, worldbuilding, editing, music direction, and overall creative decisions came from me. Biggest takeaway? Don't rush production. Spend more time developing the story than generating content. The stronger the foundation, the easier everything else becomes.

@Alex Vachon Right now Ghost-Writer is 100% AI-assisted production, but I'm absolutely open to working with actors and crew on future projects. My biggest challenge was consistency. Keeping characters, environments, performances, and the overall look cohesive across an entire pilot took way more work than I expected. The other challenge was knowing when to stop generating and start editing. Early on I spent too much time chasing perfect shots. Eventually I learned that storytelling, pacing, and finishing the project mattered more than perfection. Honestly, finishing the pilot taught me more than any tutorial ever could.
