What are we?
After the last few days of tuning into the R-Future conference, I've been asking myself a question. Are we gardeners, designers, or programmers? The obvious answer is gardeners/farmers, right. Growing things and working towards growing them better. We'll that takes using design elements, so we're also designers. Once we understand how everything works and we create our designs, then do we become programmers, plugging inputs in here to have this desired effect. Manipulating organic matter for other forms of life to thrive. I think I'll sit on this one a little longer. @Landen Schaelling with your experience how much do you feel programming our spaces plays a part?

Is it motivation that comes first or inspiration
When I started this permaculture journey, I had a limited understanding of what it actually was. There were no movies out about regenerative agriculture, and I had only heard the word mentioned in magazines about living off the grid. So I had to find my way through. One of the things I thought would have made it more relevant, at least when learning about ethics and principles and the foundation of the design model, was to have a project in mind that I could apply the lessons to in real time. Being that we are at the beginning of this basics course, I challenge you all to share a project you want to work on. For example, Matt has talked to me offline about building a Walipini greenhouse, and we discussed efficient ways to heat it during the winter months. We can learn how to apply what we're learning exponentially faster by sharing our projects and discussing as a community. We can gain inspiration and learn what works best in our different climates. There are folks here from the PNW, the Southwest, the Southeast, the Midwest, and our community is growing every day.

There's a link in the R-Future post that you might find interesting. Especially with 16 acres.
Welcome
Welcome to Permaculture Solutions. We are going to explore the world from the soil to the high rises. Classes will be dropping soon, covering, in depth, what permaculture design is and how to apply the lessons to our everyday lives. More importantly, it is getting to know each other and building a functioning community, much like the ecosystems we find in nature. All living things build together through their unique functions to continue life. We can do the same. With that, please let us know who you are, where you're from, and what drives your passion.

What drives my passion for this design philosophy is the absolute value I see in it to create a healthy environment to live in. Not just for the Earth and it's awesome living things but for people as well. I have kids and I want them to have clean air and eat nutritious food. I want to see all living things flourish and benefit each other.

@Neil Smith great to have you.
Ethics
Good evening, you awesome participants in life. The ethics class is posted in the classroom. Please take a look and let's talk about it. I hope everyone has taken the opportunity to tune in to the R-Future conference. There is so much good work going on out there by folks who have passion and drive. For the business-minded folks attending class, this conference is a great example of how you can thrive not just in the agricultural, hands-in-the-dirt aspect but also in innovation.
