Here is a list of things that are not doing the thing:
ā€œPreparing to do the thing isn't doing the thing. Scheduling time to do the thing isn't doing the thing. Making a to-do list for the thing isn't doing the thing. Telling people you're going to do the thing isn't doing the thing. Messaging friends who may or may not be doing the thing isn't doing the thing. Writing a banger tweet about how you're going to do the thing isn't doing the thing. Hating on yourself for not doing the thing isn't doing the thing. Hating on other people who have done the thing isn't doing the thing. Hating on the obstacles in the way of doing the thing isn't doing the thing. Fantasizing about all of the adoration you'll receive once you do the thing isn't doing the thing. Reading about how to do the thing isn't doing the thing. Reading about how other people did the thing isn't doing the thing. Reading this essay isn't doing the thing. The only thing that is doing the thing is doing the thing.ā€ — Strangest Loop I don't know about you guys, but when I feel like I'm "failing," I often find through self-reflection that I am doing something on this list other than doing the thing. Anyone else?
Group for 30k in 30 days challenge?
I'm thinking of doing the 30k in 30 days challenge starting July 1st . . . anyone want to start the same time so we can keep each other accountable?

I will be traveling in July, but have been feeling like I need to do it. Maybe I just bite the bullet and do it anyway. There is never a "right time," right?
Breaking into a New Genre
For year's I've had a love/hate relationship with Urban Fantasy, but after conversations with other authors and actively trying to read the genre again, I fell in love and wrote my own standalone Urban Fantasy novel. It ended up being some of my best writing yet and it goes live on 6/17. Can't wait to see how my readers and the community reacts.

Epic! I love that. What is your biggest takeaway when it comes to writing outside of your preferred genre?
The 'Algorithm' Doesn't Exsist
"I don't know what The Algorithm wants." This is the most common phrase I hear from authors trying to grow on social media. I have a secret. I know what it wants. The algorithm just wants people to stay on social media. That means it wants content that grabs attention fast, keeps it for a minute, and encourages them to stay for more. How do you do that, though? You tell me, you're the author. How do you do it in a book? How do you hook them with a great first line, make their tummy tickle in the first chapter, and get them to read 'just one more'? Don't worry about what The Algorithm wants, just give your audience what they want. Tell good stories.

@Lisa Jonte It sounds like one of those hustle culture type "just work harder" statements, but all of my favorite characters tell stories instead of promoting work.
